First and foremost, Aly Martinez is one of the few authors who writes super angsty books that I really enjoy. I mean, I'll be honest, I don't have much patience these days for a certain type of angst that's portrayed often in romance novels these days.
You know - the immaturity and miscommunication that I guess is supposed to be tension? But Aly doesn't do any of this, she writes the best angst and tension and I never get irritated with her characters. I feel for them, usually very deeply. That can only be credited to the authorโs talent.
หโย� ออออโณโฅ In Release we follow our two main characters, Thea and Ramsey who were childhood best friends and high school sweethearts until Ramsey went to prison (served 12 years on a 16-year sentence) for killing the guy who assaulted Thea. We follow the events leading up to Ramseyโs incarceration, and also everything that happens once heโs released.
Once again, Martinez has blown me away. There's so much about the plot that I can't talk about in order to avoid spoilers, but what an emotional read. And again, with these characters, I'm not even joking, besties. These characters are amazing.
โโนโถฤโ� ห เผ� เณโ๏ฝก ๐ฃ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ช ห๊คหโ - She's strong, loyal determined, caring. She's an amazing friend and partner. A survivor. She knows who she is and stands her ground. I just loved her so much.
โโนโถฤโ� ห เผ� เณโ๏ฝก ๐ก๐ช๐ถ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ ห๊คหโ - Omg. Ugh. I just can't with Aly's MMC's. I loved everything about him. He's fierce, strong, protective, supportive. Of course he's sexy, loyal, determined and with a heart of gold.
I just adored Ramsey. Watching him change from the sweet, sensitive boy who loved Thea into a tough, jaded, just-out-of-prison man was heartbreaking. But under the tough exterior, Ramsey is still a gooey cinnamon roll of a hero at heart.
Even when he was trying to be a jerk and push Thea away so that she could be free of his dumpster fire of a life, he was still a good guy underneath it all. I understood his motivations, so I never got annoyed with him for trying to push Thea away โfor her own good.โ� (That kind of asshattery would normally turn me off with a quickness, but...what can I say?
หโย� ออออโณโฅ There are exceptions to every rule, and Aly Martinez is DEFINITELY an exception to any and all my reading rules.) What can I say? I have gotten to the point where I know this author will not let me down. How refreshing is that?
หโย� ออออโณโฅ The writing is impeccable as usual, the side characters are wonderful and well rounded.
I really loved Nora, sister to Ramsey and best friend to Thea while he was away in prison. I'm interested in learning more about her, you can already tell there's more to her - and I can't wait to dive into her book next (Reclaim- the second part of this duet.)
I've had a rough couple of days and felt like I was slipping into a slump, so of course I had to break out the big guns, and Aly Martinez does it again. I highly recommend Release and any of her other books.
หโย� ออออโณโฅ If you enjoy depth, loveable, flawed characters and a fantastic story. Stories that will make you sob but also have you crying tears of joy with the absolute wonderful happy ever afters - Martinez is your author.

THIS REVIEW๐ฉ๐this is so different than the swoony and dark romances we read wow. The plot seems to be so interesting and the way you described the characters makes me feel like they'll break my heart and stitch it back together, they'll have the deepest of chemistries and tension. I need to read this one. Thanks baby๐ค

@esta so close to another 5 star. After I sit and think on it I might just bump it up lol. I did love the other two just a bit more though. 4.5 still pretty impressive. Sheโs basically 3 for 3 with me. I just loveee her stories. No complaints. Thanks so much my darling love! โค๏ธโค๏ธ๐ฉท
@ri all of her stories are so different to me. Like for real such good premises and then she tops it off with amazing characters and then just takes you on such an emotional journey. Iโm going to start going through her entire backlist at this point lol. 3 books Iโve read from her so far and theyโve all had me in both tears of heartbreak and then tears of joy. So good.
