Notes: Written academically, it's more a long essay than a book; covering lots of subject matter, it never really goes in depth.

Mackey Interesting review. I'm not sure what to think about this now.

Thanks Mackey. I'm glad I could at least provide you some food for thought :)

Leila I think I know what you mean Jayson. The first book I ever read by Karen was 'Through the Narrow Gate' which at the time I found really interesting due to my own background (educated by nuns at my Catholic Grammar School- not a pleasant experience!) Since then she has gone so academic her books seem so heavy going I have lost interest to be honest.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. This is the only book I've read of hers and I don't feel the need or inclination to read any more. Personally, I'm fine with academically written material so long as the subject matter is of interest to me. This subject matter is, but the content and approach to it is pretty snooty.

Jayson Chloe wrote: "It is called “the SHORT history of myth, and the back cover calls it a “primer. Mythology is such a broad subject, it would be impossible to go into more depth and still consider all of the ages ..."

I'm not holding anything against anything, it's just an observation, and one that you apparently agree with 😃👍

Now, if you're saying it's a redundant point to make given the stated concept of the book, that's a different thing entirely 🤷‍♂

BAM doesn’t answer to her real name It was basically written for an intro and guide to the Canongate series

Yes, and I did read The Penelopiad as well. I just don't think it sufficiently or satisfyingly performs that function either, let alone as a book in and of itself.

Steve Have you ever heard of the Parable of the Hedgehog and the Fox? A SHORT History is a great introduction to understanding the significance of MYTH.
