I can't remember when a book has had me swooning and crying in equal measure!!
"Ruin" is a beautifully written story of a once in a lifetime love that has the power to make miracles possible.
I absolutely positively freaking loved this book and practically highlighted it entirely!!
There were so many beautiful excerpts throughout.
Kiersten Rowe is starting her freshman year at the University of Washington.
She's trying to break out of the shell that her depression and anxiety have encased her in, when her parents died several years ago.
She's from a small town and has never had any experience with boys.
Then she literally crashes into Wes and his "8 pack abs" on freshman orientation day.
Wes Michels is beyond perfection and sure to be a book boyfriend contender.
He's drop dead gorgeous, football quarterback, and dear god he says the most amazingly beautiful things I've ever read.
"Every time you close your eyes, regardless of where I am or where you are, I want you to remember this." His fingers laced with mine and then he pressed my hand against my own chest. "Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, alive or dead, young or old, my heart will always be with yours. Every beat you feel against your fingertips..."
Wes charms his way into Kiersten's life and he becomes her savior.
Her dragonslayer :)
He helps her realize it's ok to have fear...to do things afraid!!
He gives her the greatest gift of all...true love.
Wes had single-handedly put me at ease, as well as wisely taught me one thing. Control what you can, love what you can, and the rest, well...the rest was just the rest.
There's a big secret Wes is keeping and I don't think I've ever cried this hard reading a book.
What he endures is gut wrenching!!
I cried plenty for him and for his dad.
They both have also suffered through tremendous loss.
Wes' mother died from illness and his younger brother committed suicide a year ago.
I have to mention one of the amazing secondary characters....Gabe.
Gabe well, he is by far, the BEST secondary character in any book I've ever read so far.
He'll have you laughing one minute, then bawling like a baby the next.
I adored this character and boy did he have me bawling like a baby!!
I did not expect those heart breaking words to come out of his mouth.
"I would take your place. I just want you to know. If God told me that was penance for living the shitty life I've lived, I'd take your place. I asked Him, hell, I begged last night, and you know what? Nothing. Silence."
I could go on forever about why and how much I love this book.
All I'm going to say is that it's FABULOUS and I'd recommend it to everyone!!
Well done Rachel Van Dyken!!!!
FIVE+++++++++ to infinity stars!!!!!!!!!!

“Just because you need help to cope doesn’t make you any less strong. The truly weak people in this life are the ones who can’t admit they need help. They’re the ones who can’t admit that they can no longer go at it alone. Those are the people who are weak. By asking for help, by taking help, you’ve just admitted your weakness and in that, you find your strength. The weak of the world are those who think they’ve got it all figured out and flaunt it to others.”
