I just this year started the series and the writing is excellent. I give this book a strong recommend and plan to read the next book soon. So why not 5* there was just something irritating about all the characters...from the victims to the main characters. I read the book over 3 days, so it captured my interest and held it. This book seemed more about what is happening with the main characters with the crime as a backdrop for their development. The book was written 15 years ago and has held up well.

I also just started this series this year. I’d been wanting to read these for years and now I’m kicking myself we if you for waiting so long to start this series! I liked the characters being in the forefront. It made them more “human� than in the previous books. Great review!
Donna, thank you. I have enjoyed reading the Harry Bosch, Elvis Cole and Reacher series. Then life got busy and I didn't have time. So glad there are so many good series out there as I am back to reading all of them again.
Hi Merry, I chuckled at your review because I clearly remember reading this book for the first time. I had never read a book before where I disliked every single character! I highly recommend reading the Grant county series and going through everything chronologically. By the time I got to the Wiil Trent series I was fully invested and he was my favorite character.
Thank you Laura, I read the first book in this series going in with a blank slate. I did not even know Will Trent was the main character till later in the book. Just wanted something fresh and this series is that. Thank you for the info about Grant county.
Terrific review! Keep reading. Will has a few things to go through as his character develops. I second Laura's feelings about Will. He and Sarah are my favorite characters. The series is intense but worth the read!
