it was amazing
bookshelves: essays, philosophy

One could imagine Sisyphus happier if maybe he had a sticker chart on the side of the boulder and got a cute animal or smiley face sticker to put on it each time he made it to the top of the hill and after completing a row of stickers he could redeem them for a soda or maybe a small toy next time his parents went to the grocery store.
See, look how happy he is:

Sasha (imagines Sisyphus happy)
That's a perfect description of how I track workouts, I use different dog stickers for strength, cardio and rest days.

Wait a minute, does this mean that working out is an absurd pursuit?

Sarah-Hope Genius!

Hahaha YES! We can have holiday themed boulders too, as a treat!

Hahaha I just pictured Camus doing sit-ups and abruptly pausing and staring into space with a look of vague sadness on his face. WAIT I love that you use dog stickers that is excellent. I came up with this saying "I don't want to work today I just did it yesterday and they'll make me do it again tomorrow" and discussing with a coworker how we should have a sticker chart to earn a day off and realized thats all accrued PTO is haha.

That situps scenario is literally me on strength days when my imagination conjures some scene. it's like a tape enters the VHS slot in my brain, and the workout is suddenly... What workout? What day is it?

Hahaha FAIR. I’ll do that on runs but instead of abruptly freezing I’ll suddenly be blocks away and like huh how did I get here what road even is this????

Brad Lyerla sp, you always entertain us. The age-old portrayal of futility trivialized for the 21st century! Who says that we are not advancing as a species? 😎😎😎

Haha just finding better ways to roll our boulders! I came up with this thinking about how accrued PTO hours are just the adult version of chore sticker charts haha
And thank you!

Ashley (catching up on reviews) lol, wonderful review! i have lots of his books lined up for me to read on my shelf. should i start with the stranger, the plague, the fall or the first man? (asking because i know you're incredibly knowledgable since i've seen almost all your reviews on his books!!)

Thank you so much! Ooo hmmm, okay so The Stranger is definitely his best known and gets referenced all the time so its a good one to have read AND it rules to read The Meursault Investigation right after (which is sort of a loving homage/rebuttal) and both are really quick reads. The Plague is probably my favorite but also longer but I found it hit real hard after all the Covid years and I think about it more than any of his others. The Fall is amazing too and a real quick read....
hmmm really any are good but MAYBE start with the Stranger--the warning though for that is theres some stuff right off the start that really bummed me out for being pretty wildly misogynistic so there's that.
