I am so disappointed. I found Brown's other books to be captivating, if a little formulaic. This is just a blatant rewrite of his own material in a different setting. Angels and Demons set a bar for Brown, and he just hasn't been able to match it since. It reads just like The DaVinci Code, with its plot changed to Washington, D.C. It's a completely improbable plot mixed with even more improbable character developments and plot twists.

So disappointed. If I'd known, I never would have bought the book in the first place, and certainly not in hardcover.

Bettie I've just come to the place where the ancient knife with an iron blade and bone handle transforms into an obsidian blade ah but a few minutes later.

Tara Lynn I had to force myself to keep reading. It was that bad. It's very rare that I have to convince myself to keep going until I'm done, but this was just horrible.

You best curl up with a comfort read to get over the experience. I wonder if he would refund the money you spent!

Tara Lynn LOL. I'm anxiously awaiting Diana Gabaldon's new arrival (it comes out tomorrow!) and will definitely be over the Dan Brown experience by then.

Linda After I read The Da Vinci Code I read Angels & Demons. It was then I became convinced that Dan Brown has one story template and just uses "find and replace." Find all Rome and replace with Paris, all Victoria with Sophie, all Vatican with Louvre, etc. Now he's probably done it again with The Lost Symbol and D.C. - I'm not sure I'm going bother.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Yeah, Slate's Interactive Dan Brown Sequel Generator ( ) did A) make me laugh, and B) have that kinda point, with which I agree, Linda.

P.S. I'm partial to the nefarious plots of the Boy Scouts of America, though I also like the Scientologists and the International Olympic Committee.

Maartje Couldn't have said it better myself. No more Dan Brown (or at least his Langdon novels) for me.
