Columbus Day (Expeditionary Force, #1)

An enjoyable military SF book, heavy on the military. I would have continued with this series, and I may still, but I realized after starting this its currently sitting at 20 books. That's massive, and I am not sure that this is that interesting. Overall, worth continuing due to the introduction of a single character that enlivens this book later into the narrative, but at the same time, 20 books.
Big thing is the back of this book really should be re-written. It contains a major spoiler that removes some interesting internal narrative conflicts that would be fun to read, but they spoil it on the back of the book.

"Not bad at all, but the description of this book on the "back" of the book really should be revised. It gives a fairly interesting spoiler that would have been far more interesting to watch it develop in the book as opposed knowing that fact due to reading the description of the book."

Avoiding spoilers, I found the way certain humorous elements of the story were written to be a distraction from what would otherwise have been a really solid military fiction story. Though it would have been functionally impossible for the story to exist without the power of the character involved, so there's that.
I've read half a dozen or so of the books so far and might read more, but the series is a low priority for me right now, in part because it seems to meander a bit much. And having a dozen+ more books doesn't argue that it gets to the point quickly.
Still, I haven't given up on it; there are some well-handled problems in the books I've read that keep me coming back every so often.
