liked it

I liked only about half of these.

Stars. Or rather, the drains of heaven—waiting. Little holes. Little centuries opening just long enough for us to slip through.

This collection proves contemporary poetry is still alive and that I'm too dumb for it. There is depth in many of the poems that I can perceive but can't appreciate. Vuong's brilliance in the ones I do is constructing the violence of war, family dynamics, and the remembrances of the past into the motifs of water and the night sky with beautiful lyricism. While I wouldn't highly applaud this collection as the critics and poetry enthusiasts are doing, I'd still clap politely.

The most beautiful part of your body is where it’s headed. & remember, loneliness is still time spent with the world.

Esta Entertaining and fair Akankshya! I clap politely for poetry too. I’m glad you liked at least half though—The heart wants what it wants! 🥰🤍

Thank you! Come to think of it, that's all poetry on the first read :)

Nika Poetry is usually not my cup of tea either. Perhaps I'm not sensitive enough to appreciate it, but some exceptions exist. So, I'm 100% with you on clapping politely. :)
Excellent review, Akankshya!

Thank you, Nika! Poetry is surprisingly dense to understand, isn't it

Well, this is so critically acclaimed, I clearly missed something lol
Thanks, Jamie! :D

Persephone's Pomegranate Such a poetic title. I’ve come to notice that the books with the most beautiful titles and covers often turn out to be just average, which seems to be true in this situation. Well-written review, as always.

Thank you so much! Yeah, the title and the first few poems are really intertwined and poignant. And I've been miffed by a lot of aesthetic covers too :)
