Parineeta.. the book is so diffrent form the mega movie.. actually tahts true for Devdas too. The way bollywood has presenteed Devdas & Parineeta is like 'Mughleazam' whereas the characters and events are those amongst the common people.
Lolita is actually a 13 year old girl & shekhar & Girin are 24 year old men. Lolita calls Shekhar Da but she has been always loved & protected by him that eventually they both fall in love. Shekhar though is a sort of a male egoist & a coward who does not have th guts to stand against his father unlike in the movie. Girin is a genuinely nice & helpful fellow who actually goes out of the way to support & handle Loloita's family despite knowing she is married to someone else. An unbelievable but still likeable character. and Lolita is an intelligent, homely but with a head of her own. She stands against all and waits for Shekhar to accept her.
One thing is to notice in Sarat Chandra's love storie sthat women are virtous & loving unconditionally waiting for their lovers to accept them. They are mothers as well as wives as well as romantic lovers for their men. whereas men they fall in love with are loosers, egoists, backless, and cowardly fellows who do love but fail to stand for it. They can insult or hurt the women as men, but would never be able to confess it to the world or their parents. like Shekhar in Parineeta could only accept Lolita after his father died and he feared noone. How convenient? The worst is that women lovingly accept such guys.. probably loving a looser itself is their destiny..
