I'm not really for sure what to say about this one. Normally I find myself plunging through one of Echols's books. I always love her writing, and the idea of this book sounded awesome. But this time around I just couldn't get into it.
My main problem was with Zoey. On one hand I felt horrible for her due to what was going on in her family life. Her father was just...grr. I've never wanted to smack a fictional parent upside the head so bad before. And her mother's state of mind didn't help out either. But on the other hand, Zoey drove me nuts. She was so oblivious when it came to Brandon. I couldn't understand why for any reason she thought they were a couple. You know from the beginning that the boy is a player. It just made no sense.
I did enjoy Doug. This isn't exactly surprising for me to fall for any sort of 'bad boy'. When Zoey and him got together - whoo! Talk about steamy. If you thought scenes in Going Too Far were hot, you haven't seen (or read) nothing yet! Due to the content I would really recommend this one for older teens. But still, I could never fully wrap my head around their attraction. Zoey uses Doug a few times, and he's very much aware of it. I never saw why he would want to be with her because of how hot and cold she ran with him. In the end this wasn't a favorite from Echols, but as always I look forward to see what she'll come up with next.
