Wow...for my first KH book, this was really enjoyable. I ended up having a really good time while reading this! To introduce myself to KH's books, I wanted to start with something that was more up my alley. This has very much mystery vibes while also being extremely emotional and heartwarming.
I really enjoyed that this was a very character driven book, as we see a lot of insight into grief, love, and nurturing behavior. I loved seeing the relationship between Alive (the child) and Julia (the FMC) and just how much the proper care and love and attention to do to make a child blossom. The added POV's were a nice touch to show the other aspects on relationships between characters.
What I wasn't a big fan of is that after Alice is discovered and starts to show signs of social and emotional improvement, the plot kinda doesn't go anywhere until the very end. I wouldn't say that I was bored, but I definitely struggled to stay motivated to read for a chunk in the middle of this book.
The ending make me all teary eyed, but it was beautiful to see Alice and Julia from the beginning of the book right up to the very end. Overall, this book was quick and it was so beautiful, yet it had that mysterious edge that first intrigued me about this book. I can't wait to explore the world of KH's books and see what else I may end up enjoying. 💙
