i became obsessed with 19th century russian lit in high school and in the years that followed i tore through dostoyevsky, gogol, lermentov, turgenev, chekhov, gocharov, and some tolstoy (anna karenina, ivan ilyich), but was always a little (as are most of us) intimidated by War and Peace. well... in revisiting dostoyevsky recently, i really noticed a difference in volokhonsky's translations. much more enjoyable to read, w/o, as far as i can, any loss in style/content... with this translation and the group of people assembled to read and blog along... i think it's the perfect time to do it, don't you think?
tracy, you should do it with us. it goes on sale october 16th and we will be blogging our progress regularly... there are about 6 or 7 (and growing) of us reading it.
i'll send everyone the address to the blog when charles creates the site.

i've still a bit buzzed.
will write about it in the W & P club.
whew.
