The Sea-Ogre's Eager Bride (Aspect and Anchor)

** spoiler alert **
I don't usually write long reviews but apparently I'm one of the first for this book, and so I'll do it for Ruby.
The Sea-Ogre's gentle bride is a short story (about 250 pages) set in the world of Aspect and Anchor, one of my favourite RD worlds, but can be read as a standalone novella. We follow Valessa, or Vali, a slave who's lived through multiple masters and done what she needs to survive. As the slave ship she's on travels through a narrow passage between cliffs, they find they're trapped by a giant turtle-like creature, a Hamarii named Akara, and a sea-ogre named Ranan, who pirates the ship and takes Vali as his bride.
This couple is adorable - as usual, Ruby managed to compose complete, flawed but lovable characters in so few pages, and I appreciate that the third act conflict is more of an emotional journey than anything else.
I'll admit, I am slightly biased in my review, as I could read RD's shopping list and happily devour every word, but she has definitely come a long way from the first few Ice Planet books and I can't wait to see what new things she tries next, as well as all the new books for her ongoing series!
Please never stop writing <3
