This book started good and I was enjoying it but the more it went on the more it annoyed me and I skimmed a bit starting at 70%ish.
So much of the relationship building happens off page. We get a lot of details about Blaise’s character growth and his work in costume design. We get a lot of Jordan’s character story with baseball and his future after college. And those plots were fine. But there wasn’t actually much of them together. So much was off page.
This biggest author sin of all- the first kiss was off page. I’m a huge fan of a well written first kiss scene. Why didn’t the author include it. Just a throwaway like “I kiss him, like we have done many times before
So many chapters started with “the last few weeks have been going great we did this and this and this but none of it is included on page. Just throwaway sentence references. It felt like almost all the relationship building happens off page.
When they said I love you for the first time it was completely out of no where. I thought maybe the edible hit me harder than normal and I somehow missed a couple chapters. It really went from throwaway lines of relationship development to I love you out of no where.
Even the epilogue is mostly about their career journeys and not the relationship.
Also without having read the Joy series by the author, I was so confused. It kept referencing Joy universe, Joyville, and joy inc. without ever saying what they are. I was so lost until I went back and read some blurbs from the authors Joy series and realized it’s a theme park. I think it’s supposed to be like Disney with both theme parks and movie production. Idk why the author just assumed everyone would know what that meant. It should have been explained if she wanted the book to read as a standalone.
I feel a bit bad giving this two stars because I’m in my nice era but it just felt so incomplete. It almost fell like it was written in a rush and the author hoped no one would notice if everything happens off page.

Thank you! I was going to skip most of the series but there were a couple I wanted to try. This one actually had pretty good reviews too and it started really good.
Im not picky I have pretty low standards lol but not including the first kiss is just unforgiveable!!
