Little Secrets

"Little Secrets" is about a young boy who is kidnapped, about his parents' relationship falling apart and about what is kept secret from each other. These secrets in particular could have given the novel depth, but they only play a marginal role - apart from the question of the whodunit, of course, which can be answered relatively quickly.
In addition, the protagonist's dark side is not entirely believable - she lives too much in her softened world of the privileged for that. For example, we take note of her obsession with the depths of the internet without really being affected - for an obsession it is too superficial. Significantly, she herself makes the reference to the film “The Vanishing, referring to the director's American remake and not the original from the 80s with its infernal ending.
The novel thus comes across as a thriller that wants to move, but leaves you largely cold - apart from the circle of grieving parents who all have a missing child to mourn. Here, an icy wind does indeed blow through the pages for a short time, carrying more than just tumbleweed with it.
