it was ok

I’m an outlier once again. I found this a boring slog,

This book is based on the extraordinary true story of the French noblewoman Marguerite de la Rocque.
Everything you need to know about her harrowing story can be found here:

If you want a fictionalized overwrought account of her story you will find it in this novel.

I have an issue with fiction based upon real people so I should have known to not pick this book up. But the hype roped me in. The angst and drama were OTT.

I much prefer non-fiction of people who walked this earth. For me, no fiction could compare with their real stories, so this story is not for me. My mistake!

NZLisaM Fair and honest review, Jan.

message 3: by Bianca (new) - added it

Bianca I'll keep my expectations in check. I already have some bones to pick with historical fiction, I added this because so many were raving about it.

message 4: by JaymeO (new)

JaymeO Ugh sorry it was disappointing Jan! Hope you love your next read! Great review!

Heidi Appreciate your honest review and maybe not such an outlier! Your the second review today that has me wondering if I too will find it a tad too boring! 😎

Lee-Ann You're the second person I follow who has said it's boring, scratching this one off the list.

Shelley's Book Nook Boring slog. I will have to remember that one. Welcome to Outlier Island. May I get you a tropical drink? 😄

I hope your next one brings you joy, Jan. 🤗💕

Marialyce Sorry Jan, that this one was so slow and boring. I am still "slogging" through it.

Canadian Jen lol oh you make me laugh. I loved this slog! But we can’t love them all, Jan! I hope your next one delivers everything you love in a story! 😉

Holly B (slower pace!) I tried a "free sample" from Amazon and couldn't get through that, so def not for me! 😂

Debra Bummer, Great review! I hope you love your current book.

message 14: by Taufiq (new)

Taufiq Yves I totally get your preference for non-fiction when it comes to real people's stories. And 'overwrought' is definitely a strong word! It sounds like the fictionalization just didn't capture the authenticity you were looking for. Thanks for sharing your honest perspective, JanB.

Same Bianca. I have huge issues with HF but I keep trying to bang my head giants the wall. sigh...

The hype is why I added it too.

Thanks Heidi! It does seem to be a polarizing book. No book is for everyone, right?

haha, no we can't love them all and no book is for everyone. Plus no two people read the same book. Vive la différence

Thanks Jen!

Yes, it's my thing. I just can't abide a fictional retelling of people who walked the earth as living breathing people. I want to know the real person and their real story.

Thanks Taufiq!

Thanks Rachel, I didn't resist the FOMO but should have. HF is not my preferred genre. I like to keep my history and my fiction separate lol

Melissa (Always Behind) Sorry it failed to deliver!
