it was ok
bookshelves: books-everyone-loves-but-me

in september, this book will turn sixty years old! while i do not care for it personally, and the celebration of a couple of self-satisfied pseudo-intellectual doofuses and their buffet-style spirituality traveling across the country, leaving a number of pregnancies in their wake and exploiting underage mexican prostitutes makes me wonder why this book endures, endure it does. so i have made a road trip booklist with less ickiness and more cannibalism. enjoy!

Karen said; " ..... makes me wonder why this book endures, endure it does."

IDK. I probably like it a bit better than you, but not all that much.

I guess it endures because the experts put it on the all time greats list, and some of it was antecedent to the hippies.

If not for it we might be worshipping Ginsburg poetry.

karen ha! i do actually like allen ginsberg. oops! and i get why adolescent suburban boys would like OTR, but other than that subset of folks, its longevity mystifies me.

Erica Different strokes, I suppose. I've always loved it.

Alienor ✘ French Frowner ✘ OMG, for one moment I read, "in September, I will turn sixty years old" and I was like WHAAAAAAAT XD Okay, it's late over there, but come on XD

karen i know - my birthday is in AUGUST, not september! that would be crazy...

Alienor ✘ French Frowner ✘ Pfiou, I stand reassured

Renzo Kerouac's for cool kids. Nabokov's road trip book is better by far, but more for weirdos

karen humbert humbert = more charming than sal paradise. fact.

Leigh So happy someone else agrees that Kerouac is trash. Humbert Humbert is a total creep, but I'd read Lolita 100x before picking up this book again.

Suus I couldn't agree more! I linked to your review. :)
