it was ok

I wanted to like this book. I really, really did. But in 'Luna,' Julie Peters has succeeded in creating absolutely no likeable characters! And the characters she has created don't even talk or act like real people. The people who would seem most likely to accept Luna's gender difference - like the hippie "Thank Buddha" couple (and don't even get me started on that lovely slice of overused dialogue) - are completely disgusted by her. The main character is a whiny, annoying, and self-centered girl. Peters didn't even have the nerve to write from Luna's perspective. As someone who views transgendered issues on a somewhat personal level, I think that just because someone has had the courage to write a book on the topic doesn't mean we should all applaud shoddy craftsmanship.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

Crystalee Ouch. I wish I had read this review before I bought it a couple of months ago! It seemed so intriguing. I haven't gotten to it yet and there are a couple of books ahead of it, so we'll see what I think later on in the summer.
