it was amazing

Loved this book, which I didn't expect. Not sure why I didn't expect it because she IS a poet and I think that comes through. Patti and I are the same age and that might also be why the book appealed to me. Plus, I was introduced to Manhattan in 1967 and visited the city many, many times between then and about 1975, which is the period covered most intensely in this book. I certainly didn't travel in her circles but I did spend a lot of time in lower Manhattan so the book felt very personal. I came away thinking that, despite the somewhat wild times, Patti was a very down-to-earth young woman who felt a deep love for Robert Mapplethorp -- then and now.

Zvi Volk We weren't nearly as interesting. I don't usually like memoirs but this is an exception. I really liked this.

I am reading this book in short bursts because I don't want it to end. You're right about us not being as interesting (Doug doesn't agree w/ that BTW), but we were around for it all. And I spent a lot of time in NYC in the late 60s/early 70s with that first husband of mine so it feels very personal to me. Happy New Year, Eddie!
