2022

You know how you re-read your favorite romance novel years later and you realize that it's sort of cringy or gross in ways you didn't catch the first time around?

description

Well, thank god that didn't happen!
Nope, this is still my favorite trashy romance novel of all time. Sebastian is my guy, Evie is my girl, and the audiobook version read by Mary Jane Wells is wonderful.
But let's face it, mostly it's Sebastian.

description

It's no wonder Kyeypas has a whole bunch of books dedicated to their kids that allow us to get cameos with older St. Vincent.
Who is still smokin hot, btw.

description

Sebastian. Mmmmm.

2009
This one is one of those books that I knew I was going to love as soon as I finished the first page. It was perfect! I was rooting for the hero and heroine the entire time. Maybe not the entire time. A tiny part of me wanted to throw Evie off a bridge and steal Sebastian for myself, but...
whatever.

Danielle The Book Huntress Awesome review, Anne. I'm glad you liked it. You are most welcome to join, 'St. Vinnie's Ninnies,' the official fan club for St. Vincent here on ŷ. :)

Anne Lordy! Sebastian was smokin' hot! I'm reading another of the Wallflower books next. I really like her style of writing so far!

Danielle The Book Huntress Oh, yes. He is quite the man! :)
I'm glad you are enjoyin her writing. LK is one of my all time favorite authors.

Anne Just started Secrets of a Summer Night! I think I'm going to try and read the entire Wallflower series.

Danielle The Book Huntress Oh, that is my second favorite. Simon is so swoonworthy. :)

Anne You have such a good recall for the name of people in these stories! I'm really enjoying what I've read so far, but I haven't managed to get read much of it yet. We thought my youngest son had a spinal infection, or infected fluid on his hip, so we were at the doctor's office all day yesterday. As you can imagine, reading took a back seat. Thank God, he is ok. It turns out that he was just having a crazy reaction to this virus that all my kids (except my baby girl, knock on wood!)had caught. My oldest daughter just ran a really high fever for one day, my oldest son broke out in welts all over his body, and my youngest son's (the one picking his nose in my profile picture) left hip got so inflamed that he couldn't move without screaming. You wouldn't think one little virus could cause all of that, but there you go.
At any rate, I can't wait to get back into this new book! Simon sounds like such a bad boy, and Annabelle seems like such a snob, that I know it's going to be a good one!

Danielle The Book Huntress Thank God indeed. Oh that would have been so scary. Bless your heart, all the sick kiddies. I hope they all get to feeling better. Make sure to take care of yourself. Get some quality time reading in. :)

Annabelle is a bit of a snob and kind of materialistic, but she comes around. I love the book for the yummy, deliciousness of Simon. I would have been chasing after him if I were Annabelle! I think you will like Simon!

Anne I am really starting to like Simon already! He just helped her after the adder bit her foot. *sigh*

Thanks for your concern about the kids!

Danielle The Book Huntress You're welcome. Simon is one of my favorite LK heroes.

message 10: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne I think I still love St. Vincent more, but Simon is hot, too!

Good review! This book is my favorite in the entire series. :) St. Vincent is so drool worthy.

Danielle The Book Huntress Oh, St. Vincent is tops. But Simon's high on my list though. St. Vincent is super drool-worthy, Grain!

Anne I just finished Secrets of a Summer Night, last night. I loved the ending! It was so romantic that she risked her life for him! *sigh* Needless to say, I requested the rest of the Wallflower books from my library as soon as I was finished reading! I can't wait to read about Westcliff (sp?)! I also requested several of her other books. Is the Bow Street Runners a good series? I believe that one of the books I put on hold was from that series.

message 14: by Danielle The Book Huntress (last edited Dec 06, 2009 12:38PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Danielle The Book Huntress I'm glad you enjoyed it. LK is addictive. She writes beautiful romance. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the next books.

Linds I'm glad you discovered LK, she is my favorite romance writer. Some of my favorites are Again the Magic and Dreaming of You. Her new Hathaway series is great too - I would read that after the Wallflower series though. Book 1, Mine until Midnight has Cam from the Wallflower series so it's a good bridge between the two.

Seriously, with the exception of a few, I haven't read a bad LK book. The exceptions aren't even bad, they're just not "great" like when she is really on her game.

Anne Have either of you read Tempt Me at Twilight, or Worth Any Price? Those are the two other (besides the other Wallflowers) that I have on hold. They look really good!

Danielle The Book Huntress Tempt Me at Twilight is coming up soon as far as reads. I'm excited to read it because Harry is my type of hero.

Worth Any Price is very good. I love me some Nick Gentry. I would suggest reading Lady Sophia's Lover first, because it's related.

message 19: by new_user (new)

new_user The Bow Street books rock! They're a little different from the Wallflower books. Nick Gentry is quite a hero. ;)

Mmmmmm. Love Harry. I think he's your kind of hero, too. Sort of a cross between Derek Craven and Rehvenge. LOL. Only not a sympath or a drug dealer. Just ... y'know ... sexy.

I haven't read Nick Gentry yet. I didn't like Lady Sophia too much, but I was intrigued by that part of the story line, so I definitely need to pick it up.

message 21: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne I wasn't sure I would like Lady Sophia, either. That's why I skipped it and went straight to the book with Nick. I don't mind skipping around in a series. Kind of like the Wallflower books. I read the third first, and then the first second... If I really love Worth Any Price, I'll go back and read Lady Sophia's Lover. My library has a pretty good selection of Lisa Kleypas' books, so that should keep me busy for a while!

--You know me well, Beanbag! LOL.

I think you'll like Nick Gentry. I don't think the fact that you didn't care for Lady Sophia's Lover will affect your enjoyment of Worth Any Price.

Anne I just started It Happened One Autumn. Is Westcliff as yummy as I think he's gonna be?

Danielle The Book Huntress I guess you got your answer, Anne. Sorry I didn't get the question until, like 15 days later. Oops!

message 26: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Haha! Yes, I guess I did. He is great. Just a notch down from St. Vincent.

Danielle The Book Huntress I'm glad you enjoyed Westcliff. :)

message 28: by Ophelia (new) - added it

Ophelia I was wondering if we need to read the previous books in the series or if it’s ok to start with this one?

message 29: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne You know, this one was the first Wallflower book that I ever read. It does have a lot to do with the book that happened before it, but (like all romance) you can read it as a stand-alone.
I'll never personally regret not reading the others first. This one will always remain (to me) the best of the best.

message 30: by Meghhnaa (new)

Meghhnaa (On a Review-Writing Break!) What a "jealousy-laden" review, I am still laughing Anne :-D
Someone thrown-off the bridge, and another is being kidnapped by our Anne <3 :)

message 31: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne It's not a pretty look as I'm pulling alongside of him in my white kidnapper van, Meghna. LOL

Aarann This is one of my favorites too. Or at least I thought it was when I started that sentence. Then I looked at my GR rating and realized I only rated it three stars. I think a re-read is in order. I have no memory except pure love of this one.

message 33: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Oh, looking forward to seeing how that reread goes!

Minna OK, immediately bookmarking this review so I can revisit the gifs for the excellent content. Yes. This review will be the first stop of each work day, for sure. (For real though, this book DOES TOTALLY stand up to time. Team Sebastian!)

message 35: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne I LOVE CHRIS HEMSWORTH. I just can't even think straight with that level of genetics running loose.

Minna Yeah, totally hall-pass level for me 🤩
Have you seen Love & Thunder? Movie was mediocre (kills me to say so) but GAH is his kid cute. Those genetics are FOR REAL.

message 37: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne I actually haven't seen it. I was afraid that one was going to ruin me, so I've stayed away. I think it hits Disney in a few weeks, though.

Minna I have to watch it again, because my kid had to go to the bathroom RIGHT at the part I paid admission to see (you'll understand if you watch it), but I might put big chunks of it on mute. Sigh. I think it went a little too far into "silly." The first Thor movies were so earnest and serious - it's a huge contrast to watch them side by side.
Anyways, if you do end up watching it, we can discuss! :)

message 39: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne We will DEFINITELY discuss! I know exactly the part you paid to go see...lol
Kids! Can't live with them, can't sell them for parts.

Tessa in Mid-Michigan Ok, I’m baited and hooked on to read this trashy romance. ☺️

message 41: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne You haven't read this one yet?! I think it's a classic at this point, Tessa. You won't regret it!

....

I hope?

message 42: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Alan Great review. It's been a while since I've read Kleypas.

message 43: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne I don't love her new series as much, but I still pick up every book out of nostalgia. lol
I think I'm going to re-read all of the Wallflower books soon.

message 44: by Carmen (new) - added it

Carmen Great review.

message 45: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Thank you, Carmen!

MasterSal This is probably her best book - which has everything to do with Sebastian. She hit gold with the hero. Rest of the series is not bad but I am looking forward to your reread

Denise Sebastian! (Sigh)
Anne, I think you should give West Ravenel another chance. To my mind, West is very like Sebastian, but not as darkly sarcastic. (In the interest of full disclosure, I must mention that I do have to continually remind myself not to visualize him as an overweight, disheveled rake. However, even that image doesn’t prevent me from falling for him)

Ginger I’ve always wondered if I would experience the same with reading this! I’m so glad to hear it still stands the test of time!

Thanks! I am, too. I'm going to need a good palate cleanser soon and these books are going to hit the sweet spot, I think.

Ok! Maybe you're right. And I wouldn't mind a re-read...
