did not like it
bookshelves: festival-of-suck

My memory of this book is basically that all the characters are really miserable and everything that happens is really miserable, and I think someone may die horribly, but I don't actually remember. Also, there is a lot of snow and a lot of color symbolism (at least according to my 10th grade English teacher and the bullshit essays I wrote about it). Also, it's fucking boring.

Shannon Thank you (very belatedly) for your comment, Seizure.

Fr. Andrew Sheesh...I remember reading this in 8th grade and liking it because I was new to books for adults and how easy it was to read. I remember death too. But I am going to re-read this and will probably write a review of some sort.

Shannon i'll be interested in how you feel about it now! there are a lot of books i read at that point in my life that i should reread, bet i'd have a totally different take on them.

Fr. Andrew I have to say, even when I disagree with your reviews, they are quite enjoyable to read! I'm full-steam-ahead on Ethan Frome now, and hope to be done in a couple days. Oddly, it's slower going for me now than it was when I was 13. This, I do not fully get, because especially at that age I was not one for skimming...

Fr. Andrew Well, I'm surprised...at 55% through, I moved it to my "didn't finish" shelf and commented thusly: "Gonna have to call it quits on this one, because even though I adore Wharton's careful and exquisite prose, I'm at the point where Ethan's crush on Mattie has reached gag-inducing proportions. I wondered how I would respond to this book, since I last read it at age 13, some thirty-mmph years ago, and now I know. I'm over it."
