Ryan Dean West (“Winger to the guys on the rugby team) is a Junior at a boarding school. He’s different than the other boys, though. He’s only 14. This is the story of Ryan Dean’s life-altering year dealing with first kisses, first bullies, first love, first loss all while trying to remove himself from the stigma that is being the “little guy.

“It’s always that one word that makes you so different and puts you outside the overlap of everyone else; and that word is so fucking big and loud, it’s the only thing anyone ever hears when your name is spoken.

This book . . .

“It’s about love, and maybe, not having it.

I have to admit I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Ryan Dean West for a good chunk of this book. He admits he’s a “skinny-bitch-ass and, let’s face it, he’s a 14 year old boy. I’m quickly approaching the time when I will have one of those living in my house I’m fairly certain I’m not always going to like him either. While reading, I kept wavering between a 3 Star or a 4 Star rating thinking I’d end up with a 3.5. But then Ryan Dean changed and, although I knew what was coming, the book changed and I discovered that I’m not broken and I cried. And cried. And cried. At my desk, at work, on my lunch break. And all my frustrations with Ryan Dean from the first 90% of the book are erased, because HE’S A 14 YEAR OLD BOY FOR GOD’S SAKE!!!!

5 Stars.

“Crede quod habes, et habes If you believe in what you have, you’ll have it.

It's a series right? Is there more to come, does it end in a cliffhanger, and are you going to read the next one?

Kelly (and the Book Boar) I will ABSOLUTELY 100% NEVEREVEREVEREVER read book #2. Actually, I paid no attention to the fact that "Winger #1" was in parenthesis - there's a good chance I would have marked it down 1/2 Star for that. There is no reason to make a book two. No way can it be as good as #1. No way.

WOOOO...thanks for the headsup. lol. I feel like I'm wasting time on reading a sequel right now.

Kelly (and the Book Boar) Yeah, I just can't with the sequels anymore. Eventually authors will get back to writing standalone books, right? Right??????????? Please tell me I'm right.

I fucking hope so...and no more cliffhangers either!!

Allison There's a book 2? Whyyyyy?

Kelly (and the Book Boar) Ugh! So not necessary : (

Dear authors, don't mess with perfection.

BWAHAHAHAHA! Rules are meant to be broken. I also hadn't fallen completely head over heels in love with Andrew Smith back then. Now he could probably hand me a phone book and I'd read it if I thought he wrote it ; )

I will say, that were it not for the "Mom" rating, the second book was 2.5 Stars at best.

message 10: by Alissa (new)

Alissa Patrick I still want to read this, not only because you and Shelby rated it high, but because Dan 2.0 absolutely loathed it

If Shelby and I love it and Ron 2.0 hated it, you know it's a guaranteed winner : )

Shelby *trains flying monkeys* Alissa wrote: "I still want to read this, not only because you and Shelby rated it high, but because Dan 2.0 absolutely loathed it"

It's wonderful. 2.0 just likes to bitch at us.

Kelly (and the Book Boar) Ron needs like a Rosetta Stone for bad readers or something. He obviously does it wrong sometimes.

message 14: by Delee (new)

Delee I have to say- I don't like this cover at alllllllllllll...but I may have to cave and read it to see which of you read it wrong. ;)

Kelly (and the Book Boar) It was Dan! Shelby and Ed Lorn and I all say so : )

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ I'm fine all alone here in my corner again. I do love that message #2 though, and then on message #9, she admits how turrbile it all actually was. lol

Kelly (and the Book Boar) The second book was probably crappy. I'm just going to blame it on mom/period hormones making it the one time I had feelings last year.

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ What is Ed's excuse? lol

Kelly (and the Book Boar) We've been friends long enough his period cycles with mine.

message 20: by Delee (new)

Delee ...and there was that one time..at band camp.

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ hahahahaha
