I haven't mastered the art of superlatives, m'dear! 😄
Thank you, Fede. The Professor is the reason I'm a Hobbit even after so many years out of my Shire. 🤗

So, what's your favourite character on this reread and why is it Samwise Gamgee?
(Yeah, yeah, I know you'll say your husbando in all of the Tolkiensphere is Elfie McPrettyface Perfectionpants, a.k.a. Glorfindel, but still... 😜)

Sam is great, but he’s not my favorite (blasphemy, I know). I have to say, Aragorn is my favorite. Faramir also holds a special place in my heart.

(I've often wondered why the Professor didn't give Finrod Felagund any romantic arc, given how much he loved humans he was a prime subject for what ultimately was Lúthien's arc of renouncing immortality for a Man.)

YOU HAVEN'T READ LOTR?! *hyperventilates*
My dear Thibu, you're my friend and I won't disown you over this, but do run and pick it up yesterday. 🤗

Hahaha. I can already imagine writing a story about a smart, beautiful and talented woman who turns into a raging dragon and chases after anyone who dares to say they haven't read her favorite book :D
I actually considered reading them once upon a time. But I just never got around to reading them. And I did read the Hobbit.

You can also read The Silmarillion, or one of the stories published separately in illustrated editions that Chris Tolkien edited. :)

I tend to err on the side of purism myself, but with LOTR specifically I'm not too strict. :)

Or Dune! Which was fabulously done! I like good adaptions in movies, even if they are different than the books.

Say something bad about yellow-pants Sting as Feyd-Rautha, and we're besties. 😄

Is there an eye roll emoji? Sting should have stuck to singing!
And I meant the new Dune series, not the old one or the SciFy channels version.

No, never! Glorfindel is in my heart. Finrod Felagund is such a great character. He is so noble, wise, and selfless. I love him.

I'll risk making Tolkien turn in his grave, but I think he should've had a love story. I think him and Maedhros are lacking a female touch in their life. Though I can't think of a woman or Elf that's perfect for him (and isn't taken).
But the boys, on the other a hand . . . hehehe. ðŸ¤

I’ve always thought it was a bit disappointing that Tolkien didn’t explore more romantic relationships between male elves and female humans. The story of Andreth and Aegnor is a great example, and I really wish Tolkien had delved deeper into it or even created an entire book around it. I completely agree that Finrod's love for a human would have made for a fascinating narrative. It’s fun to let our imaginations run wild and picture how that might have unfolded. I often create alternative storylines for characters when I feel their endings could have been different or when I think they should have paired up with someone else.

Yeah, agreed. I'd have loved a novel about Aegnor/Andreth, far more fascinating than what we got. And if there was a perfect fit for a Man/Elf romance, it was Finrod, I don't know why Tolkien gave it to Lúthien instead.
I think part of it is the genre, epic doesn't lend itself to expansive romance that well, it gets subdued in favour of the grand scheme of things. And part is also the social conventions of the time: woman sacrifices for man. Arwen does for Aragorn, Lúthien does for Beren, Idril does for Tuor, Finduilas was willing to for Túrin, Mithrellas might as well have for Imrazor, etc., etc.
But Aegnor isn't given the opportunity to for Andreth. And Finrod's love for humanity is made to be Jesus-like and devoid of anything romantic of sexual.
Not fair! :(

Yeah, agreed. I'd hav..."
I really enjoy the tale of Luthien and Beren, and I'm so glad it exists, but I can't help but wish Finrod had a chance at a forbidden love story too. I totally agree with your thoughts on the social norms of that era. It's interesting to see people shipping Sauron and Galadriel because of the TV series. I’m sure this is something you never expected to come across in your life. lol I won't give away any spoilers in case you plan to watch it. I've seen the first season, but I'm not too keen on watching the recently released second season. I have to admit, though, Sauron was kind of attractive in the first season, and I hate myself for thinking that.

WHAAAAT?!
People are shipping Sauron and Galadriel, seriously? Sweet baby Jesus and his donkey, I give up on humankind. ðŸ˜

There are YouTube edits and fanfiction featuring the series version of Sauron and Galadriel. In The Rings of Power, Celeborn is notably absent, and they've even claimed he's dead, which raises questions about how Galadriel will have Celebrian. Either Celeborn will eventually be revealed to be alive, or Sauron might end up being the father of Galadriel's future daughter. LMAO It's unfortunate what Tolkien's heirs have done with his legacy; if he were still around, he surely wouldn't have sold the rights or endorsed the mess that is The Rings of Power.

Merde! 😒
That's as if you make Satan be the father of Eve's first child (yeah, yeah, I know Satan in LOTRworld is Melkor, but still, mini-Satan then), and now you gotta explain why Abel is a cinnamon roll, so you invent Cain...
This is really absurd! I had heard Elrond was making heart-eyes at Galadriel, but this . . . Even worse than people were telling me. A friend of mine is watching, and loathes it.

The portrayal of elves in the series is quite disappointing. Many of the male elves sport short hair, which really frustrated me. They lack the beauty and ethereal quality one would expect. Galadriel comes off as an unbearable girl boss, convinced she’s always right and often rude to those around her. She’s a far cry from the wise and graceful Galadriel depicted in the books and films. The writing choices are puzzling, to say the least. Celeborn is dead, Elrond has short hair, Finrod has short hair and is unattractive, Celebrimbor resembles an elderly woman, and Isildur is just an irritating brat—though that might be one of the few logical decisions made in the show. To top it all off, the series is incredibly boring. When I say boring, I mean BORING. Tolkien crafted an extraordinary fictional universe, so it’s hard to understand how the showrunners managed to make it so tedious. The characters are so poorly done that I found myself rooting for Sauron, which really says something.
Quite? QUITE? Surely you meant tremendously xD
