bookshelves: classics, free-domain, adapted

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn conquer the world.

Mississippi River, 1840’s. Two young little rascals get together after school. Hijinks ensue on every turn. Pranks, adventures, fence painting, murder.

An innocent novel, an immortal classic. I just wish there was more Tom and Becky.

Classics are often difficult, but this one was on the whole fairly enjoyable and easy to read.

It’s public domain. You can find it

Still remaining, the movie (1938).

PERSONAL NOTE :
[1876] [244p] [Classic] [Recommendable] [Easy to read] [Iconic fence painting] [Plentiful misfchief] ["To make a man or a boy covet a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to attain.”]

★★★☆ The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
★★★☆ The Prince and the Pauper [2.5]

-----------------------------------------------

Yun Great review, Federico! Glad it delivered for you, somewhat! :)

Federico DN Thank you Yun!

Heidi I agree that classics can sometimes be appreciated but not always beloved by some. Good review for a book that isn’t nearly as good as Huck Finn. 😎

Federico DN Thank you Heidi! I heard Tom Sawyer is overshadowed by the Huck Finn sequel. Will read that one too :)

Vicky "phenkos" I second Heidi's view about Huck Finn! Tom Sawyer is ok but Huck Finn has everything you could wish for from a novel of that time! Huck is a charcter close to my heart!

Clint Hall Agreed, Huck Finn is the masterpiece!

Dirk Hello Federico, classic yes but in no way innocent. Getting others to do one’s own job and been paid for that is not cool. And also the part in the cave shows signs of stupidity. I started “Onkel Tom’s Hut the other day a found it hard how the collored where treated in that time. Same goes whith Tom Sawyer’s

Federico DN I share your moral concerns about something not cool but I try not to judge too hard, they were just kids after all. Sadly kids misbehave. And if Tom would have just painted the fence, it would have been kinda boring to read lol. I read Uncle Tom's Cabin and yes it's horrible! A brutal depiction of slavery. But as extremely painful as it is I think it's a great read to understand the worst crimes of humanity. Like Anne Frank's Diary. A life's must read.

• Lindsey Dahling • Fence painting, murder, the usual summer activities. No big deal. Completely agree that sometimes classics can be rough. Twain was one of those snarky, clever ones who makes them feel much less dry.

Fence painting and murder is such an integral part of every kid's childhood. I don't know where I would be without it lol. You remind me I still need to read the Huckleberry Finn book, I always hear it's SO much better!

Razvan Banciu Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer? I mean the book...
