it was amazing
bookshelves: 2016, fantasy, malazan

"A war is coming. Only a few years away. And it will, I suspect, draw into its fray virtually every ascendant from all the realms."

This sixth book seems to be a full convergence of all the important characters and plotlines of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. Seven Cities, Malaz City and the Letherii Empire; the former Bridgeburners, the remnant of the Fourteenth Army and the Apocalypse, all the greatest and most cunning ascendants and generals. Icarium, Trull Sengar and Karsa Orlong. They are all gathered on the pages of this giant tome of a book.

The rebellion in Seven Cities is now totally crushed. But dark times are ahead for the Malazan Empire. New enemies await outside and inside the corridors of power. The pieces of the board are moving in new directions. And hidden intrigues are mixed with open battles as the future of the world begins to unravel.

I'll have to concur with the popular view that The Bonehunters is probably the best book in the Malazan series. So far, that is.

For me the series started to go downhill after this book, really fast.

I'm really hoping that doesn't happen to me as well. I'm more invested than ever at this point.

This is the reason why I continued reading the series past dreadful book 8.

Lilyan So, I've just bought the second book, haven't started it yet. Do the characters change!? I don't see any reference to any of the characters in the first book on the blurb. Bit annoyed

Erikson keep introducing new characters all the way to the last book. This started to bother me around book 7.

Lilyan But do the old ones go away? Like Tattersail and the bridgeburners?! And Sorry!

No to spoil anything, but people keep dying in Malazan by truckloads... and coming back in one form or the other.

Lilyan *sigh* I thought it would get easier after the first book, looks like I'm in for a whole lot of confusion!

You cannot even imagine...

It does get easier after the first book, and even more so after the second. But it never gets easy.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin Yay! Markus, it's so good to see you on here :-) I'm going to have to try this series, hopefully this year what with this review. Although, it's the 6th book but you must enjoy them to come this far!

It's one of my favourite series :) Probably the most complicated fantasy ever written, though.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin Hmm, complicated might not be for me. You know how I don't understand things! I'm so glad you love it though :-)

Aaah. So are you planning to get them?

I'll read them in eBook form, I have no way to get them in physical form. I'll finish the "The Fisherman" then I'll read "Words of Radiance" and then I'll finish this one. All the 3 last books one after the other.

Mayim de Vries I'm torn between this one and the DHG.
