it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy, horror, united-kingdom, queer, gothic

Not at all what I was expecting, but I totally enjoyed this book. Wilde might be the wittiest author I've ever read. In fact, they might have made up the word witty just to describe Oscar Wilde.

This story started out a little slow. Meeting the characters and blabbing about art and youth. But as soon as the first tragedy struck, I was hooked. From there on, there was only one other boring chapter, some sort of interlude between Dorian's young life and his adult adventures, otherwise it was non-stop horror, humour, and even fantasy. I am so sad that he wrote no other novels!

Sasha I bet I know the chapter you mean. The one where he drones on about Gray's various obsessions, from music to jewelry? I was hoping there was some point to this that I'd figure out later, but it felt like Wilde showing off all the weird shit he knows.

Jayme Yeah, that's the one. I don't think there was any point to it either. He could have done something more interesting to segue into Dorian's adult life.

Sasha Agreed. Just passed that chapter this morning, so it's still fresh in my mind. Oh wait, no it isn't, because I decided it was stupid and skimmed it.

Oh good. It wasn't just me.

Jayme I'm glad you liked it, Gail! It's quite a neat book isn't it?
