Not to mention the fact her dystopian society isn't even consistent; nothing anyone is doing makes the least bit of sense. This really is a poorly conceived version of The Giver. Whatever--at least I got this book for dirt cheap at Borders."

Tatiana WHY?

message 2: by Penny (new) - added it

Penny Borders was practically giving it away so I thought, "why not? It can't possibly be that bad."

But it is that bad. The whole premise is full of fail. I can't understand what happened. Before I Fall was carefully crafted, every word had a purpose. This? Feels as though it was thrown together in a matter of days. Sure the writing is great but everything else about this book sucks. "The Book of Shhh"? Really???

This book is horrible on so many levels.

Penny I mean, this whole concept was covered in The Giver. And emotions were neutralized with medications. That makes a hellofalot more sense then an operation that removes somebody's ability to love. So stupid. Sooooooooooooo soooooooooooooo stupid.

Tatiana This is what happens when one jumps a bandwagon to get some quick cash. Whatever! I hope you are not planning to attempt Matched too.

Penny No. No way. I can't do it. This is horrible so I can't even imagine how bad Matched is.

Matched is even more boring and even more of a rip-off of The Giver.

Lissa I just read Before I Fall and cried like four times. Is Delirium really not worth it? Such a shame.

Penny I'm not going to lie. Delirium is a major disappointment for me. Especially because Before I Fall is one of the best books I read in 2010. I absolutely love that book. But this one? Is just so fail. I wish I hadn't ever picked it up.

And you know what? I wasn't going to read it. After reading so many negative reviews from reviewers I trust, I had decided to not give this book a try. But I couldn't stay away, especially when I found this book on sale (60% off @ Borders). I figured, hell, it can't possibly be that bad. But it is.

I'm all about details and plot continuity and I'm only able to overlook so many plot-holes before I just can't take it any longer. And I know this is a work of fiction but I'm only able to suspend my disbelief so far, specifically when it comes to science.

That said, I do know a lot of people like this book--I wish I were one of them. I say you should give it a shot, but only if you can get your hands on a library copy.

Lissa Thanks for the advice! Admittedly I was much more excited by Before I Fall's concept than Delirium's.
