it was amazing
bookshelves: whodunit, favorites, read-2011, young-adult, own-copy

Yeah, I was Claire Fern, tough psychic chick, member of the freak family. But if they stripped all those labels off people might be shocked to find a normal girl beneath. Who doesn’t want to spend her days on the defensive.
Who wants what everyone else wants.
To be loved.

While some are born with talents like singing and art, the Fern family are born with supernatural abilities. Clarity is a psychic, her brother, Perry is a medium and her mom, Starla is telepathic. Together they work at a business, providing readings to the good tourist that come to Eastport. When a sudden murder happens in town Clarie is asked to help out in the investigation and finds herself working side by side with the Mayer's son and ex-boyfriend, Justin and the detectives son, Gabriel to solve this case. But when Clarie finds out that her brother Perry was with the victim the night she died, Clarie is put in a no-end situation. Family comes first, and she has to do what ever it takes to protect him. What ever it takes.

This book was just awesome!!!
I don't think I found one element I didn't enjoy. The writing style is remarkable, it was so easy to get caught up in these characters lives. The plot-line has a great whodunit mystery that kept me on my toes and had me guessing through out the whole story and the characters are all strongly developed and really likable.

Clarie is freaken awesome! There's nothing like a fiery protag who doesn't take crap from anyone, specially idiotic mean girls or gorgeous guys for that matter. I like that she takes charge and doesn't need others to hold her hand. She can take care of herself and does a fine job of doing just that. That doesn't mean she doesn't feel hurt when others look at her like a freak, but at least she has the spunk to be who she is and hold her head up high. Love her!
Then there are the boys, Justin and Gabriel, who funny enough, made some jackass moves. (view spoiler) that doesn't excuse him mind you, but at least he's always accepted Clarie for who she is and loved her because of it. He's always believed in her and that's a plus in my book. Gabriel on the other hand has issues with psychic and totally judged Claire just as soon as he found out what she was. Yes he had his reasons and he's charming and cute and came around eventually and blah blah blah, but I'm rooting for Justin in this one! (view spoiler)
I also really love the protective brother/sister bond in this one, I don't know why but I've always love books with a strong family background and this one most definitely has it.
I also liked Madame Maslov role in all of this and was scared that she was going to be put in the plot a different way, which would have ruined it for me, but thankfully that wasn't the case and her character added a great touch to storyline.

The supernatural concept, while isn't exactly something new, still felt fresh and alive and entertaining. Harrington really delivered a cast of fascinating characters and an engaging suspenseful plot that I couldn't get enough of. I loved that we even get a few hints to what we might expect for the next book, making this, more of a must have!!!

Bottom line, I loved, loved Clarity and can't wait to see what happens next!!
For fans who love a good mystery and a sweet romance, this one goes out to you! Fantastic debut!!

More please!

JUSTIN <3!!

message 3: by Nomes (new)

Nomes LOL. Loved this. I viewed your spoilers. I just can't help myself. they made me smile :) I haven't even read the book and I wanted to join in with you in saying the same thing!

~Tina~ Ha Ha! (view spoiler) I hope you like this one!

message 5: by Nomes (new)

Nomes I was rooting for him too and I haven't even met the guy ~ he just *sounds* awesome :D

I want to read this now. NOW. NNNOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

~Tina~ He is really awesome. Gabriel was cool too and I also adored Perry! Hell, I just loved this whole book XD!

Nic You two are tempting me to click the spoiler :/

Nomes, I pre ordered this from TBD and hopefully it will arrive soon (who knows with them). Let me know if you want to read it after me.

Nomes The spoiler is pretty awesome, haha.

CLICK IT. YOU knOW yOU WANT TO.

Actually, resist. You have greater powers of self-control than me. (I don't know what it is about spoilers ~ but I nearly always check them out, haha. It's like being in on a secret or something)

Although it strangely endeared the Justin fellow to me. I kind of like it when characters screw up (although, like Tina, I don't condone what he did :D but in the book-world, I am very forgiving...)

~Tina~ You can click it twinie:) Sure it's a spoiler, but I don't think it makes a difference regarding the character. You'll either like him or you wont, but I think you will ~bounces~

Nomes And GOOD LUCK with TBD. I am feeling semi-annoyed with them lately.

They still haven't refunded me a book they cancelled back in AUGUST 2010. I've emailed them TWICE about it ~ and they haven't even replied.

Plus they cancelled another book and told me it;s been refunded but the money is not back in my account. has this happened to you guys before? How long does it take to get the refund? It's been a week since they told me they's refunded.

Sorry to derail... We should go back to talking about Justin :)

~Tina~ Haha! Your too cute ^^

Nic I caved and clicked. Justin sounds more my type. I like my characters a little flawed. CAN.NOT.WAIT.FOR.THIS.BOOK! ~bounces alongside twinie~

~Tina~ ~spins twinie Nic around~ I hope you wont be disappointed, but I don't think you will. Can't wait to hear what you guys think!!

oliviasbooks Ha! I truely find it so fascinating how one person you - says she cannot find fault - and another - me - is annoyed every few page turns. But I am really happy for you that you had such a great time. I do not deny that there are far worse paranormal YAs out there and I had no trouble finishing it, but ... I did not root for anyone - no boy, no girl, I thought Clarity's way of getting back at her classmates did not speak for her character and found her efforts to hide her brother's involment questionable. Plus, I do not like it when paranormal crime stories are not really crime stories. If you think about it: Did Clarity's paranormal ability help her solve that crime, or the fact, that the Newport police seems to have employed dumbasses only (view spoiler). Enough bitching. I always feel so unmoved to write a real review for book I didn't love and didn't hate.

I would just keep emailing them. Have you heard back about your order yet that still hasn't arrived?
Olivia what do you suggest since they seem to like you?

oliviasbooks Constant nagging. That's what helps with BOL. Maybe 'offering' solutions like allowing them to send a voucher instead.

I do think it is pretty funny how some people like books while others don't. To each there own and all that;) Thanks for recommending this to me anywho's, I really did have a blast reading it;)

oliviasbooks It's YA, sure. *grin* And I was pretty sure you would like it. So we are all happy.
But tell me: Do you like this better or the Mediator books? and: Is this a little similar to The Body Finder? I haven't read that one, but Janina complained abot the lack of crime plot, I think and I felt reminded when I read Clarity.

oliviasbooks ... and I liked the writing enough to want to read Glimmer. Haunted house romances make me curious.

~Tina~ I don't think I liked either books more then the other. The Mediator series was a total blast to read, even though I've always struggled with Cabot's writing. There was no struggle in this book what so ever. I equally enjoyed both. As for the Body Finder, that is more physiological then anything else. You get to view what the hunter is thinking so it's more creepy. The romance in that book is what really made the book for me, so I'm not sure if you'd like The Body Finder.

I'm also really curious about Glimmer. It sounds really good:)
