it was amazing
bookshelves: nobels

Nobody does short stories like Hemingway. Moving between African savannahs, Spanish and French cities and various American settings, he always gets to the point. Human hope and happiness followed by disappointment and loss.

PirateSteve I do very much agree with you.
People who have only read his novels do not yet know Hemingway.

Definitely! Hemingway is a favourite of mine, in all shapes. But the short stories have a special place in my heart! And I seem to have stuck to the Hemingway-esque brevity in my review!? Couldn't even remember it, hahaha!

Steven Godin Totally agree. People seem to forget just how good a short-story writer he was.

Indeed! And I seem to have followed his lead and kept the review shortest possible, hahaha! Funny when you have totally forgotten what you wrote about something...

Ivana Books Are Magic I read this edition and loved it. I do agree with you. Nobody writes them as Hemingway.

I loved it too, Ivana!

Kate One of my literature professors once said that "The Killers" is the most perfect short story ever written. It's not one of my favorites, though. In my opinion, "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" is much better :)

I'll have to reread The Killers. Doesn't even ring a bell. But I love The Snows of Kilimanjaro. I think The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber is my favourite, though...

Sean Donnelly Fantastic. Lisa, your Review was short and sweet. I think Hemingway himself would be proud of such a no bullsh*t, concise Review.

Sean Donnelly 'Old man at the Bridge'
Is the single most heartbreaking and fantastic short story ever written.
By Hemingway, that is.
It tells you so much with so little writing.
This was obviously his goal as a writer and it's here that he succeeds so beautifully.
I actually cried when I first read it.
