I think everybody and their uncle know what Lolita is about, so I won’t go into details.
Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul.
Welcome to this tangle of thorns, this web of desire, deceit, immorality, lust, dissimulation and obsession.
I loved her. It was love at first sight, at last sight, at ever and ever sight.
Welcome to this puppet show, where the reader is the puppet on the string; where allusions is the name of the game; where there is endless anticipation and shock; where the unexpected must be expected.
I loved you. I was a pentapod monster, but I loved you. I was despicable and brutal, and turpid, and everything, mais je t’aimais, je t’aimais! And there were times when I knew how you felt, and it was hell to know it, my little one. Lolita girl, brave Dolly
In this sinister memoir written in prison by Humbert Humbert, filled with ambiguities, word plays, innuendoes, double meanings, cynicisms and unreliables, Nabokov leads the reader through manifold emotions; he drags him down to the depth of the abyss and in a heartbeat, elevates him to the highest point; to acknowledgment of sins, to forgiveness; to redemption; to salvation; to love.
And I shall be dumped where the weed decays,
And the rest is rust and stardust.
And now I know why Nabokov is considered to be a literary genius!

"Excellent story-telling. Horrible subject, Short chapters. Nabokov is a genius. I love Nabokov! Extremely disagreeable topic. Humbert's inner thoughts are cringeworthy to say the least! So, why can't I stop reading the damn book?"

Thanks, Fergus! I understand. The subject matter is disagreeable and disturbing to say the least. My 5 star goes all to Nabokov's writing skills.

Thanks, Joe!
Recently I began reading a book by a famous author who has won Nobel Prize. Almost everybody, even those who gave Lolita a one star, or won't read it because of the subject, gave it a 5 star review. In the book there were scenes of a child being raped with all the gory details even the description of the person's genitals. The book was like porn for pedophiles. It was so disgusting I didn't finish the book.

Thanks so much, Sophie! Nabokov is one of my favorite authors. He was a genius in inventing memorable characters.
