Bobbi Foster (bobbikaye) | 1 comments Hey everyone! I love a good mystery, but when I start a series, I have to start from the beginning so I know what's going on with the characters and how they evolved. I started reading mysteries when I was in the 8th grade with the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys and am now reading Maggie O'Dell, Kate Burkholder and anything else I can get my hands on. :) Look forward to reading other people's posts and getting recommendations to other authors.

Lace | 5 comments Well Ty. I finished NOS4A2 yesterday. I actually listened to the audio book. My eyes are kinda trashed and sometimes they need a break. Somehow, I still feel like I'm cheating. I guess I think intonation will change my impressions. The book wasn't what I expected. But I guess that's a good thing, and I did enjoy it. I always enjoy a heroine, or hero, who isn't anwhere near perfect. Somehow it makes it easier to attain the all important suspension of doubt. It also renews my faith in humanity. I didn't like the reader, which is ironic because the author speaks at the end and he loved her. lol. I thought her voice was annoying She distracted me from the story enough that I found myself wanting to throtlle her as opposed to some truly nasry characters she wss portraying. As for her character from Iowa, i'm from Iowa, i've never heard somone that sounded like that! The book I would recommend, I thoroughlly enjoyed the characters and how he revealed his backstory. Just don't go with the audiobook on this one.
I've never enjoyed Louis L'amour, my mother read most of them. Maybe I'll check one out and see if I inherited it from her. Any suggestions?

All his books are the best!!
I look forward to find Mark Edwards novels especially The Magpies it really draws my attention. Cant wait to have it.

Ty Patterson | 401 comments Sean - that's fairly comprehensive... you should also check out Stephen Hunter's Bob Lee Swagger series and Greg Rucka's Atticus Kodiak's series. both series are good.

Stephen Hunter's Point of Impact was made into a movie, The Shooter, starring Mark Wahlberg.

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Just wanted to share a post from a Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ member in another group that recommended a cool website:

It has every author I can think of, even some obscure ones. All you do is enter the author's name & it even separates the lists into main characters. I was looking up Nelson DeMille, who has about 4 separate series & I only read one. It broke my series out & I just saw that a new book in the series was released in 2012! I didn't know it was my series because it's a prequel & doesn't mention the main character. So cool! It also gives you a link to author apps & other neat features.

Maybe this website could be of value to some members.

message 129: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Hi Everyone: My name is Chris and I'm a real newbie. I live in Rochester, Minnesota. I discovered and joined Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ in December 2013 after retiring from a 33 year medical career during which I had minimal time to read for fun. I loved to read while growing up and always knew I would get back to it once I retired. Mysteries and thrillers are what I am most interested in at the moment. Because there are so many superb authors out there, my initial "mission" has been to read only the first book in a series or stand alones for starters. This has been hard as on several occasions I really would have liked to jump right into book #2 as I really enjoyed #1. I've checked out close to a dozen authors in the last few months and will likely allow myself the "luxury" of reading a book #2 pretty soon!

So far I have read Baldacci (3 stand alones), Dana Stabenow (Kate Shugak), Lescroart (Dismas Hardy), Sandford (Lucus Davenport), Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch), Sara Paretsky (V.I. Warshawski), Julie Kramer (Riley Spartz), Harlan Coben (Myron Bolitar), William Kent Krueger (Cork O'Connor), and Dennis Lehane (Kenzie and Gennaro). I am just starting The Surgeon (Rizzoli and Isles #1) by Tess Gerritsen. On deck are Lisa Gardner's Alone, Still Life by Louise Penny and Kathy Reichs' Deja Dead. I have enjoyed every one of these with my favs so far being Black Echo (M. Connelly), Total Control (Baldacci standalone), Iron Lake (W. K. Krueger) and A Drink before the War (Dennis Lehane).

I have tons of renewed enthusiasm for reading and look forward to meeting other mystery/thriller lovers in this group and seeing your opinions and recommendations.

Irene (zavrou) | 44 comments Hi Christine, you have thrown some great names out there and, for me, some new ones. Hope you love our group!

message 131: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Thanks, Irene. I haven't seen much mention of William Kent Krueger or Dennis Lehane in this group. I think a lot of you would enjoy their stuff. Lehane is the edgier of the two. I can't wait to dive into more of their books. By the way, Lehane is the author of Mystic River and also Shutter Island, 2 stand alones that were made into very successful movies in the United States.

Bryan Dang | 1 comments Hi, Names Bryan

I'm thirteen years old, almost fourteen in a month. I'm in the 8th grade right now. For most of my life I have been moving around a lot, right now I live in Florence,SC moved here from Honolulu, Hawaii. I lived in 6 states all together. I love reading especially thriller, action-packed,thriller,some romance in it, young-adult books, sometimes adult books. I am a really fast reader, can read more than 500 pages in less than two days. I've joined goodreads half a year ago, I also joined this group because I need some recommendations, young-adult, adult books I don't care, it just needs action and some romance. THANKS

message 139: by Kerry (new)

Kerry Hunter (kerryelizabeth) Hi there, I'm Kerry and I live in England! I have an unhealthy obsession with Hercule Poirot and William Murdoch, but also love all things non-cozy. My favourite author at the moment is S.J. Bolton.

At the moment I'm studying law at university and spend all of my free time reading. Literally all of it. I always seem to get so lost in a book that I end up completely losing track of time and missing dinner or staying up all night.

I study from home, where I live with my dad, younger brother and my cat called Cocoa. I love music and movies and have been known to spend the whole day watching a TV series in chronological order.

I suppose that's it haha. Nice meeting you all!

Hi Kerry, welcome to the group. Your story reminds me when I was younger, I feel asleep reading in my closet and my mother couldn't find me the next morning for school.
