Presiana (pressie) | 418 comments Thank you so much @Tatiana and @Mei! I am just getting into this genre and now I see that I have lots of interesting reads to start with.

message 605: by Paulina (new)

Paulina | 17 comments I want to recommend The Curious Incident Of The Dog At Night-time. It's a short book, very easy to read if you're in a reading slump, it's entertaining fun and gives you a different point if view in life. I recommend it to all of you, seriously :)

Dr. Andy | 14491 comments Presiana- The first historical fiction I read was Prophecy of the Sisters (Prophecy of the Sisters, #1) by Michelle Zink . I thought it was amazing and it was mysterious too, which I liked. Definitely try it!

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments That cover is creepy, Andrea!! :O

message 608: by Dr. Andy (new)

Dr. Andy | 14491 comments Yeah it's a bit foreshadowing for the story too.

message 609: by Zenon (new)

Zenon I'm looking for a fantasy that isn't a romance and isn't about vampires. That kind of book seems hard to come by nowadays. Preferably a series, and I can read up to a 12th grade reading level.

I'm also looking for a dystopia that isn't about zombies.

Thanks in advance ;)

message 610: by Dr. Andy (new)

Dr. Andy | 14491 comments Dystopia: the hunger games, divergent, matched, XVI, the pledge, the maze runner.

As to the other one, that may be a tad harder. I know plenty of series with other creatures besides vampires but most of them have some kind of romance aspect.

Have you tried the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher? There's a touch of romance, but it revolves more around the plot and it. I love it and highly recommend it. =)

message 636: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2535 comments Anybody have any Christmas themed book recommendations? :) I'm trying to get in the spirit but most of the ones I've found look pretty cheesy.

message 637: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 4857 comments @Amy I'll be reading five novels by Charles Dickens, A Merry Little Christmas by Debbie Macomber and a collection of christmas stories "'Twas the night before Christmas" - you can look it up on my profile.
I also heard that Landline takes place during Christmas, but I don't know whether it'd be considered as a christmassy book :)
Hope this helps :)

message 638: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2535 comments I read a few of the novels by Charles Dickens last Christmas but they were slightly heavy for me. I'll check those other two books out though! Thanks Irene. :)

I want to pick Landline up eventually but I'm in no rush at the moment (I didn't like fangirl all that much)

Tara Ellis | 33 comments Irene wrote: "So... How do you find good indiebooks? :) Any tips?"

Hi Irene!

I want to answer your question from the perspective of an Indie author. It's both an amazing opportunity to publish my own work, but also endlessly frustrating, because it's so hard to rise above the other 250,000 works put out in 2014.

I have found myself looking for these things in not only my OWN books, but other Indie authors:

*A professionally done cover
*A good book blurb
*A good sample chapter that indicates a good edit and writing style that I enjoy
*REVIEWS

Now...more on the reviews. First off, getting reviews is like trying to pull teeth, only harder. The frustrating part of it, is that Indie authors can PAY people to write fake reviews, but I have found there are ways to figure those ones out. If you have a Indie book with 20 reviews and 15 five-star ratings all with generic comments and then five 1 or 2 star ratings asking HOW did this book get so many five-star ratings? I always avoid those.

I tend to read through several of the reviews from various ratings to try and get an over-all feeling.

If they don't have many reviews? That makes it harder, but this is why I like Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ so much. As an Indie Author it has been such a valuable resource and a way for me to connect with potential readers and get honest reviews and feedback.

Of course, I encourage you to check out my books! :)

I'll just plug the first one in my trilogy:
Bloodline (Forgotten Origins Trilogy #1) by Tara Ellis

Bloodline

Any good German childrens books? I already read the Grimm brothers in English...
Thing is, I'm in love with this series: Silber Das erste Buch der Träume (Silber, #1) by Kerstin Gier
So I need to prepare for that series in German... I know the language a bit already, it's just been so long since I had it in school lol :P
