Thanks! I'll check it in a few minutes. I've got a rough idea of what I'm doing but have been contemplating asking people for ideas!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments No, I mean, it doesn't matter if your profile is public or private. It appears that the link you shared here will default to the viewer's personal shelves, it won't show me how you and Steven compare, for example. I can see how I compare with Steven and how I compare with Barb (via those links you posted up there in message 554), which is very handy and I know I can go compare myself to yours since we're friends, but we can't all see "how does Oo compare with Steven", if that was something that you were thinking might help people find common TBR books in order to make some sort of cross-reference list for the group to view.

I hope I'm making sense. I feel like I know what I want to say but it's not coming out right.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Okay, goodnight, Oo!

LOL, that link defaulted to just my account vs my account. I'd still probably have to manually find the "compare Oo to Steven" thing myself, which is fine. I'm not too concerned with the comparison thing right now, I just wanted to point out that it seems to default to the viewer's account no matter what you try -- mostly it's a "public service message", I guess you could say.

I am 100% compatible with myself, yay! LOL!

SOME CHANGES:

If only one Team completes this task, we will award them seven (7) additional books/points. If it is split, as it was for May, we will award each Team reaching the goal four (4) additional books/points. Any Team that completes at least three (3) of the following categories, for a total of 21 books, will receive a one (1) book advantage.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Everyone, we have a new challenge for June and July. Let's everyone read through it and start thinking about whether or not they are participating AND which categories we are willing to do.

Everyone who wants to participate, please MESSAGE me with your top THREE category choices, and I'll do my best to work out where everyone can go for us to finish the challenge!

This one is complicated, so make sure you read every category and make sure you understand it!

Oh, and ps -- we have to read FORTY-NINE BOOKS, so we're going to need anyone and everyone to sign up and read read read!

Don't forget -- we don't have to do EVERY category, so if none of us want to run a buddy read or whatnot, we can double up! :)

Hi. Add me as participating. I'm could with doing all or just put me where needed.....

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 775 comments Barb I'm so glad your family is safe....

message 558: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Okay, Sallie. I'll put you down as "up for anything"... the good part is, if we get seven people to commit to read 7 books, it'll be pretty easy to complete!

message 559: by Karla (new)

Karla I would like to do the challenge. I have the next nine books I am going to read after the series challenge ends planned out. I will look at the new challenge again and see where my books fit.

message 560: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments I am going to have to actually sit down and do MORE planning to figure out what I want to do.

I'm wondering if I should sacrifice my Books by the Numbers (since I can't win as the prize-provider anyways!) and read some series up to book 6, so that I can read seven book #7s.

message 561: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments LOL! Now that's planning, Steven!

message 562: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Haha! :D

message 563: by Karla (new)

Karla I have a book with "seven" in the title, will that work for anything?

Karla wrote: "I have a book with "seven" in the title, will that work for anything?"

I'll say, "yes" since I left out "seven letters in the title," which I just added.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6250 comments Hi all, I would like to participate but I need to digest the rules first and check my TBR. I'll get back to you later.

message 566: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Plenty of time, Lisa, no rush! That's why I said go ahead an look through everything before messaging your favorite options :)

But I'll mark you down as joining in!

message 567: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilalynn) | 206 comments I will participate as well. I am planning on reading a few of the BOMs maybe all of them. So I can definitely go down in that category.

message 568: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Okay, I'll keep that in mind when I'm trying to figure out where everyone who wants to participate can fit in!

Don't forget to tag that book you just finished for the Books by the Number challenge to your Mango Tango shelf also... it's not showing up in your challenge as I update the spreadsheet!

message 569: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilalynn) | 206 comments oh right! opps

message 570: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments So Barb has sent me her three category choices, Sallie says she will work on any of them, Karla is taking a look through her books... I need those of you who've commented to send which your top three choices for WHOLE categories please. :). If we have to split everything up individually, it is going to get much more complicated. We can do that if we have to, but I'd like to try to get the categories covered so we all can focus on fulfilling one section, rather than bits and pieces here and there. :)

message 571: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Oo, I do plan on squeezing those in around the challenge books if I can. I definitely will I we choose not to skip that category, but I'm thinking I'll have time either way ;)

message 572: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I will also take part - of course.

SOME CHANGES and an EXAMPLE:

The letters “N.B.R.C. have been added to Category #5.

md, from Cerulean (AKA “Hobbit Blue) provided this example, which I tweaked a bit to include an example of a series name and to include the newly added letters.
You're not allowed to reuse a letter and since “N.B.R.C.   T.O.W.E.R.   T.E.A.M.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E. only has two letter 'T's in it that's all your allowed to have. We couldn’t read 7 books that qualified for the letter 'T,' we'd have to pick another letter.

For example:

B - The Bridgertons #4 - Romancing Mister Bridgerton

T - The Da Vinci Code
O - The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
W - Where'd You Go, Bernadette

T - Tom's Midnight Garden
E - Everything is Illuminated
M - Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

We've completed challenge #5 because we've read 7 books (and used 7 letters).

If we wanted to do this challenge again instead of doing one of the others (say #4) we can do so; but, we can only choose from the letters we haven't used already.

In this example it would be: “N.R.C   E.R.   A.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.

We're allowed to do it a 3rd time, but we would only be able to choose from the letters that are remaining.

The letter 'E' appears 5 times so that would mean there could be 5 books that qualify for that letter and the remaining 2 books would have to be another letter.

~ For August the Mods are Taking the Month Off
...and Letting You Do the All the Work ~

Team Captains, Co-Captains and Team Members may create and submit their own challenge for Book Advantage Points.

It may be one of your previous mini-challenges, or one in the works.

The challenge must last two weeks, you decide when in August.

Each Team will do their own challenge that they created.

Please submit your ideas, detailing your goals and time period by July 26th for review.

We will look them all over before deciding upon the number of Book Advantage Points to be given. We may then ask you to tweak your challenge a bit to make it equal in ease or difficulty, depending on what the other Teams are doing.

HINT: Think light, easy, breezy, and FUN!

~ Frequently Asked Questions -
Q1. "We're feeling really lazy. May we just copy another Team's idea?"

A1. Definitely. Just give credit where credit is due.

Q2. "Should we use the cupcakes in some way?"

A2. While there will be cupcakes offered to win during your Teams' challenge period, we will save using them for future months.

message 576: by Barb (new)

Barb Ooooh ... this could be fun :) Thanks for the heads-up!

message 577: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments cupcakes??

message 578: by Barb (new)

Barb During the moderators' read-a-thon, they awarded cupcakes to those who played the little games and finished puzzles. Those cupcakes could help us out in the upcoming 7% challenge, if we need to use them, but I'll let Steven explain that when he returns from his hiking expedition :)

message 579: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments We earned cupcakes, and we earned the max number (28). We can use 7 cupcakes up to replace having to read one book for any category for this challenge, so we do up to four that way if we want or need to.

We can also use 6 cupcakes for a different thing but it's a little more wordy of an explanation and typing on my phone isn't conducive to really long stuff :) haha

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments That'll be my "first name"... Captain McReadaMuffin Cupcake hahahahaha

message 583: by Barb (new)

Barb My son and his wife are in town for the next week before they head off to a three-year (or longer) assignment in Okinawa, so we're spending as much time with them as we can before they leave, and I've barely been able to keep up with posts in my own groups/teams, let alone anyone else's! LOL

I mean uh, SPY!!!!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Hey! I'm a blue! But, unfortunately, my blue team is very very little. I'll join your ranks against those other blues! hehe.

message 589: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments HEY GUYS! We've read 198 books! That puts us at TWO HUNDRED with our advantage points... but since those are points..... LET'S BREAK TWO HUNDRED ASAP! :D

message 590: by Steven (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I LOVE Sea Food, Good and fresh

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments How is the Lemony Snicket series, Steven? I haven't had a chance to see if you've reviewed or commented on them. I want my son to read it but I also kind of want to read it for myself. Do they count for the Tower Teams reads?

message 593: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments I like crab and lobster and shrimp and clams and occasionally scallops, but not a fan of fish.

Though I do love (read: OMG LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE) some sushi. *weird* I know!

I am hoping to finish them soon, Oo. They're fun and easy reads, and I've been meaning to read them for years. I'm also working on the Sookie Stackhouse series... but I only have through book 10 (out of 13) of that one. SIGH

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Not a seafood fan, myself.

I'm more of a chicken eater. And chocolate, of course. And duh, baked goods. And carbs, lots of carbs. Potatoes! I'm good with rice but plain? Ugh, I don't know if I could do it for 37 days straight.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments No showers for 37 days, unless you win one in a reward challenge! Ick. That would make me itchy and give me headaches. Dirty hair feels too heavy for me.

Yes, Teresa, these type of "chapter" books qualify, per page and word count.

Barb I know I'm late to the conversation, but I love seafood, although I'll admit that I prefer shellfish to plain ol' fish :)

Steven, I just added another book to our total!
