#1. I sit here for 2 hours catching up on Gone Girl discussions and reading every new notification like a fiend, rather than go get that lunch I mentioned. Still hungry, btw. LOL.

Mainly, I'm not sure what I want to eat so sitting here beats thinking, hahha. Okay, I'm going. After I hit refresh one last time...

It really, really helps, Mary: HDLS. The mistakes I have made on the Tower Teams Reading Challenge are 99.9% due to confusing someone with someone else. I try and try to differentiate people, but it is hard on the Internet. Avatars change, and so do names. Some people don't like the {Name Alert} I put after their names, but - let me tell you - it does make me stop and double check... and I still make mistakes with them!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Forgive me for being clueless here but I've been busy and I'm blond.

When do we have to have all our read-a-thon info turned in? I couldn't find that on the main read-a-thon page but I really thought I saw someone ask already. I know we can make some changes up to May 8th.

I also saw that they want people to report their progress every few hours (that seems like a lot for me because some people can't post at work but I doubt they intend to be super strict about that). Anyway, I can access at work and can be the one who posts our progress in the main read-a-thon thread.

message 55: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Seems to me like we have pretty much decided on the following:

Theme: Uniforms of any kind
Color: (blue obviously)

I don't think we've resolved the picture mini-challenge thing have we?

I liked the ideas that Lisa Kay pmd us about for the theme/mini-challenge that we submit for our chance at possible bonus points.

Mary: HDLS, I'm not positive when and where Sonia wants things turned in for the R-a-T. I think May 1st in the R-a-T thread, and posted by the Captains.

I'd really like it if she made another thread, maybe over here in the "sister group" for just sign-ins and changes. **shrugs**

Sonia - correct me, if I'm wrong!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Okay, here is what I've found in Sonia's "How-To" portion on the RaT original thread in the Round 2 folder, which should answer the important questions anyone may have.

Goal Posting
By team captains on RaT page thread. Tell us the name of participants and their page goal.

Mini Challenge Submissions:
Team's Mini-Challenge & Game suggestion must be posted by one of the Team Captains/Co-Captains till the beginning of the Read-a-Thon May 1st PDT 8:00 AM (BST 4PM). After that it will not be rewarded with the 5 points even if the mods decided to use it during the event.

*The team Captains must send them by PM to the mod account or to Sonia with the subject: "RaT Mini-Challenge"

**Participation**
You can choose to participate and/or changing your goal anytime. However, we have points and prizes involved so to be fair the time limit to joining or change goal is May 8th PDT 8:00 AM (BST 4 PM).
No changes allowed passing the time limit.

In Short:
*Mini Challenges Due by May 1
*Submissions with goals posted Due by May 8 (see above notes for specific times and info!)

message 58: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I am still a bit confused. Are we supposed to come up with a mini-challenge theme that just our team reads, then a non-reading challenge, then a suggestion that we submit that they might pick for all the teams to follow as a mini-challenge?

Or do we just need the non-reading challenge idea and then 1 mini-challenge that we submit that may or may not be picked for all the teams to do?

message 59: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 476 comments Mod
Good question, Mary: HDLS. I thought I had it figured it out... one mini-challenge theme, one non-reading challenge, and one suggestion for a mini-challenge. However, after re-reading the outline for the fifth time in as many days, I'm not sure! LOL! Sorry.

Sonia will answer all, I'm sure.

message 60: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Apr 29, 2013 02:27PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Since Sonia's busy and may still have Internet issues, I'm going to address the confusion.

Okay, we need to choose a Theme, which we have: "Books in Uniform", which will be where we read at least ONE book (if you want, for team points) that has anything to do with uniforms -- on the cover, a character with a specific type of job that "wears" a uniform (which I have a list of somewhere in this thread). Our Uniform Ideas

Second, we read at least ONE book based on our team's color -- blue...any shade of blue, and the book cover only has to have blue as the predominant color, not necessarily entirely covered in blue.

**Books with Predominantly Blue Covers (I *love* how many blue books have the word 'blue' in the title! Made my search easy haha):
Something Blue (Darcy & Rachel, #2) by Emily Giffin Blue Like Jazz Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality by Donald Miller Blue Moon (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #8) by Laurell K. Hamilton Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland Coyote Blue by Christopher Moore Blue-Eyed Devil (Travises, #2) by Lisa Kleypas Two Little Girls in Blue by Mary Higgins Clark Blue Nights by Joan Didion Blue Noon (Midnighters, #3) by Scott Westerfeld The Blue Bistro by Elin Hilderbrand Blue Ocean Strategy How To Create Uncontested Market Space And Make The Competition Irrelevant by W. Chan Kim The Mystery of the Blue Train (Hercule Poirot #6) by Agatha Christie Zero History (Blue Ant, #3) by William Gibson
Thirdly, we create a non-reading mini challenge or game (just one, not both, I think) that we send to Sonia for review, if she likes it (or if she and the mods? Not sure on who gets to say in that) she will post them throughout the RaT for us to do as a "break" from reading. It's mindless and fun, not meant to be anything that requires reading. I made a list of all the nominated mini challenges that our group has come up with. The mini challenge can include posting a "rainbow" of book cover pictures; a picture of our favorite bookmarks; picture of our favorite reading spots or snacks; pic of our personal bookshelves; OR something entirely different from those examples. The point is just a fun little diversion throughout the RaT. It's not meant to take much time from our reading, either. 5 points if the mini challenge/game/whatever is accepted (I think). Mini Challenge Ideas We Have

I was in Team A with Sonia for Round 1 and we did a couple of RaTs that were run in similar fashion, minus the points system.

Examples of Mini-Games/Challenges:

**Rainbow Book Covers Example. Make a rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, indigo) out of book covers (names do not matter) (use the "add book/author" tool and choose "cover":
The Hunt for Red October (Jack Ryan, #3) by Tom Clancy Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman Lehota and the Green Spell_soft Cover by Kalman Lehoczky Something Blue (Darcy & Rachel, #2) by Emily Giffin Indigo by Beverly Jenkins Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves

**In Team A, we had one mini-game where we'd ask a question, then the next person would answer and ask another question and so on, until we had a few questions asked and answered. For example:

Teresa asks: "What is your favorite place to read?"

Sonia answers: "Bed." Sonia then asks: "What is your favorite snack?"

Mary answers: "Favorite place to read is my comfy chair", "favorite snack is cookie" Mary asks: "If you could be a character, who would you choose?" and so on, each person asking and answering questions (anyone jumping in at any time). I don't know that they have to be reading related, it's just what came to me as I made the sample.

Ah!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments No worries, Mary! I think we're almost set with this. We just need to finalize our choice for the Mini Challenge to submit and then you just have to PM that to Sonia, as per her instructions somewhere in this thread. (I think I pasted them in here..somewhere, lol).

Mowing the lawn is important, too!

And we still have a little bit of time to finalize our goals and participants list!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 476 comments Mod
Yeah, about 38 hours!

message 70: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Mowing the lawn is very important when your Mother is your landlord and she also has the most beautiful yard in your town and is the highlight of the garden tour.

message 71: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Sigh. I am still very confused about the mini-challenge thing. But my vote for the one we submit it in a PM, is the color related one in Lisa Kay's PMs to us. (should I name it here, do the other players know about it, do they need to vote on it?)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 476 comments Mod
Ah! Good question, Mary: HDLS! We have about 38 hours to go... might as well post it, since I've seen nothing like it. See what the other members think.

Be sure to post it by its title: (view spoiler)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I sent both of you a PM about that idea, just for some more clarification!

message 75: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Here or in the main team thread? Maybe I will PM everyone tonight and get their votes through PMs.

Already filed away in the memory banks, mwahaha! Well, I mean, of course you can post it at will since it's YOUR idea but I have it on file just for a fun little challenge among just our team, too!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I sent Mary a PM with my tweaking idea, just waiting to hear back from her. I know, it's silly to keep it private but I wanna (said like pouty child), just for a little longer, LOL! I love the idea. It kind of fits certain habits of mine around here, LOL!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Read-A-Thon participants

Mary Dresden: 1200 pgs
Teresa: 1200 pgs
Lisa Kay: 1000 pgs
Jex: 600 pgs
Sonia: 600 pgs
Sarah: 1000 pgs

This is who I saw in this thread. Sending messags to other team members to ask if they are participating or not.

ETA: sent messages to Lindy, Jessica, Mary and Laura to ask if they are participating in the read-a-thon and to post here w/their page goal if they are.

Did I miss anyone?

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments One more Listopia (I haven't looked at this one, other than the title): I Love A Man In Uniform (seemed appropriate!)

message 89: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Apr 29, 2013 10:23PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I should be sleeping but of course I'm not. Too busy setting goals and making lists, LOL! I made a list of books I want to read for the RaT. So, by sheer coincidence most of them have blue covers, plus one has the word 'blue' in the title (on purpose, plus it fits uniform theme: cops). I couldn't find a blue book with the word 'blue' in the title that I could access in time.

I'm amused. Here they are (enlarged):

linked:
If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss, #2) by Stephanie Perkins The Off Season (Dairy Queen, #2) by Catherine Gilbert Murdock Front and Center (Dairy Queen, #3) by Catherine Gilbert Murdock True Blue by David Baldacci

If I read all of those, my total pages will be 1524. We'll see...

I may read Blue-Eyed Devil (Travises, #2) by Lisa Kleypas if I have time but I haven't read the previous book in the trilogy so I'm not sure. I hate to read books out of order, unless the storyline isn't affected too much. (Like, if the character in this book is some background character from the first book, as opposed to figuring prominently somehow)

message 90: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Oops I missed Lisa Renee. I'll send a message now to her.

So...I'm stealing this idea from TMP. What if we open another thread and everyone post a spot and just update their pages there for the R-a-T?

Moderators of NBRC | 1212 comments Mod
Maybe call it something, like, May R-a-T Member Page Count Spot... or something more creative.

I'll let one of the Captains go first...

Never mind. I saw Mary: HDLS's post in the R-a-T thread.

message 96: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I just submitted our mini-challenge idea to Sonia. I thought we had until tomorrow to submit it so I was waiting to give some new players a chance to respond. We have some players that haven't been active in any of the threads.

On the other hand, we've been talking about the mini-challenge for over a week now and if they haven't taken the opportunity to speak up yet.

message 97: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Apr 30, 2013 12:01PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Oh, I thought we had until May 1 but now that I think of it, I'm not sure what time zone that was. Glad it was all taken care of, though.

LK - good idea on a new thread. And everyone will claim a "reserve" spot, right? Works for me.

Oh, I got maybe 2 hours of sleep, LOL! I got into bed and started reading True Blue. I didn't get far but still, I couldn't just lie down and sleep, nope, I had to start a book even with only 3 hours before wake-up time.

message 98: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 476 comments Mod
Yeah, we do have 19 hours & 55 minutes... but I thought it was sent last night!
