ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Mary, don't forget that you can now re-add that one book to your "read" shelf (if you haven't already), now that the RaT has begun. We want credit for those pages! You did finish it today, after all. :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I've polished my nails blue (almost the same shade as the cadet blue crayon!) in honor of the RaT beginning, plus our team color, hehe. I read a few pages of my book between coats.

Picture of the shade.. this is not my nail! Pic from thedailyvarnish.com (Yes, I'm a freak who loves to look at pictures of pretty polished fingernails. It's how I decide what colors to pick!)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I finished it yesterday which is why I thought it was safe to post it. I didn't even know goodreads kept page count stats until this morning. I figured the page counts were just going to be taken from the books we finished-as in we added up our page totals. I thought the 2 hour thing just had to do with making sure your books were counted by the system as being finished in the RAT time frame.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Oh... oh well!

Yeah, at first I thought we'd count our page totals, too because I didn't know about that page count stats thing until I read the post about it in the main RaT threads. Guess I should snoop around Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ a lot more often, LOL.

Did you look at the "details" option next to where you see the long orange bar with pages read?? It's neat, shows you each book you've read and how you've rated it, shows a pie chart of your top shelves and tells you the longest book you've read, so far.

message 155: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Yeah I snooped around.

It's been slow at work today and I've actually read 82pgs of my Uniform book. I might have my kindle read to me in the car when I run errands after work.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Woo hoo! hooray for 82 pages. I am on page 64 of my book. Why am I sitting here, not reading? LOL!

message 157: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) Teresa that nail polish is sooooo pretty!

I slammed the car door into one of my fingers March 22th. I had a nice purpleish bruise for a month, and now the fingernail decided to start falling off... TODAY... I have to stop typing and grab a scissor because it was getting stuck on the laptopt keys - it doesn't hurt or looks gross, it's just weird, so no nice nail polishes for me for a while... at least till the paper thin nail that is covering the finger gets stronger

message 158: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) Anyway... I'm ready to start reading!

*looks at clock*
10:45 PM

*right*

I will read today, I don't care :D

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Last summer at the peak of sandal season, I caught my big toe under a door and ripped the top off. I never noticed how much my big toes came into contact with stuff until I had one sprained and another smashed.

I think I'll start reading something besides the threads.

message 164: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) So I know I'm like an idiot with the mini-challenge thing. I just saw someone post in the main read-a-thon thread their mini-challenge pics.

Can we do the enemy team bookshelf thing now?

message 165: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Well I just read in the main read-a-thon thread that there will be no more points given for the mini-challenges. Just for creating one. I will probably still do it but not tonight. Going to see if I can finish that book. I had my kindle reading to me in the car while I ran errands.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments About Mini Challenges & Games -- PLEASE READ!!

Mary -- you're not like an idiot. It's probably confusing, so many threads and things going on. Let me explain it as thoroughly as I think I can to help clear up confusion.

There are TWO different "mini challenge" type deals. One is GAMES (click that link! Open in another tab, it's easier). No points awarded for playing, but you do get a little graphic cupcake, as seen in this link for the team whenever you play along correctly (well, I think it's one cupcake per team per puzzle/game but that isn't my point). And throughout THAT thread, Lisa Kay (I believe) is posting cute little "reward" graphics, such as cupcakes, cookies, little treats. Purely for fun. Games for Fun and Virtual Cupcakes and bragging rights, that's it. No participation is "required", but of course is encouraged. We don't know if the little graphic cupcakes we 'earn' will mean anything at the end or if it's just bragging rights. Or a sign that some people are really good at slider games and I suck at them, LOL! We have until the end of the read-a-thon to join in on any games. Just make sure you label which game you are posting about at the time you respond! The games are all indexed in Message #1 in that link I just shared up there called GAMES.

The *other* mini challenge thing is just called Mini-Challenges and you can see the index Here. I don't know if we earn anything at all for those or not but again, participating is completely up to you. In that one, for example, Mini Challenge #1, which you can see the description of HERE is called "Green With Envy" and you are told to find 5 books on your shelves (ANY shelf, can be read or unread) that are at least 50% green. Take a picture and post it on the thread. Option: Use the add book tool from GoodReads to post the books. So, what you do is look over your Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ shelves (Or bookshelves at home), find covers that are green, then remember the name of the book and use the "Add Book/Author" tool to find the book and choose to show the cover, and post (or obviously, take a digital pic of your green covered books from home and post that pic). Voila, you have participated in a mini challenge. The rest of the mini challenges may be similar but they may not be. That is probably where the mini challenge we submitted will show up but we do not post it until instructed. You can see that "Green With Envy" was submitted by the team Atomic Tangerine in italics at the bottom of the post. These challenges are also open for play until the end of the RaT. Just remember to label and number any of the challenge you participate in, again.

Hope that helps!

I wish there was a whole other thread for Mini Challenges like there is for Games to keep things easier for people. I think posting in the main RaT thread might be adding to confusion but I may be mistaken. That's just my .02!

Understatement, that! I changed the thread name to "Mini Non-Reading Games & Puzzles for Cupcakes from LK" to avoid confusion.

Jex (jexball) For my uniform book I'm listening to Little Brother by Cory Doctorow on audiobook whenever I'm at my computer. I've read it before but I've been meaning to re-read it because the sequel came out recently so now is as good a time as any. I'm 60% done because I started it during the 24 hour read-a-thon last saturday. Almost there!

Finally finished a book late last night - or early this a.m. **shrugs** It was one I started in April. I've got two audiobooks going and it is a bit frustrating, as they are both "buddy reads" in which I'm behind. **sigh**

message 177: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) I decided to go with Teresa's idea and paint my nails navy blue. The nailess (more or less) finger will look odd anyway, so I don't care!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) When I hurt my big toe, I bought decorative bandaids for that one and painted my toes to coordinate.

message 179: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I was going to update tonight. But it says we don't have to update everyday. Since my friend came over to help me finish getting my flowers planted and she didn't leave until a few minutes ago. I'm going to finish up my book tonight and do an update tomorrow. I'm hoping some other books will be finished and I can do one big update.

Tomorrow is the day where I'm alone most of the day at work. So even if it's busy I should be able to get a huge chunk of an audiobook done. Maybe I'll put Lady Shophia's Lover on my IPOD tonight.

Jessica Wozniak (jeswoz) | 5 comments ALRIGHT! I'm finally back on a computer again. I had to force mself to use my laptop instead of my phone. I just finished my classes and I didn't even want to look at a computer for days! haha. okay, so my page count is 18,628. I actually finished a book today but I have to split the pages for it. quick question, for the blue book does it have to be the cadet blue color or any color blue? Then starting tonight I'm going to start reading The Keeper of Lost Causeswhich i'm pretty sure goes with our theme. So pumped for this!

message 181: by Mary X (last edited May 02, 2013 06:34PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) If it was finished after the Read-A-Thon was started you can count the whole book. They know that some books were started before the read-a-thon and are going by finished date. (although obviously it wouldn't be cool for someone to mark 10 books finished on the first day because they saved a few pages but I don't think anyone would do that). Also only books finished during the read-a-thon count towards pages.

Any shade of blue works.

message 182: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Wozniak (jeswoz) | 5 comments Okay, that's good because I read majority of it today. Now all I have to do is think of a blue book I want to read!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Sonia wrote: "I decided to go with Teresa's idea and paint my nails navy blue. The nailess (more or less) finger will look odd anyway, so I don't care!"

Hooray for blue nails!

And Mary, that was a great idea, matching the bandaids with your polish! Or the other way around, but still! Very cute.

Ugh, I started a big book first so I won't be giving us an update anytime soon, LOL! It's a good book but I haven't made the time to hunker down and READ. I should go to bed very soon just to read. If I sit here, I tend to get wrapped up in all the fun threads going on.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Oh, I have that book on my list, Jessica! It definitely qualifies and I can't wait to hear how it is.

Hmmm... trying to decide whether or not to start this one. I'm thinking maybe the FBI suit might qualify. **hee hee**

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I believe FBI wear suits as their uniform and as far as I'm concerned, a suit counts as a uniform. Men in suits, so hot! Also, I'm a captain and I am making an executive decision that your book definitely counts, LK! So there. :p

I'd love to know if there is ever a description of FBI guy's clothes, too!

message 188: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) OK, so b«maybe the blue is not exact cadet blue - the lights on the store totally led me to believe otherwise, but is a dark blue, and I will totally hunt for a cadet bluish today :o)

Here's my left hand - the "nailess" finger is the middle one

It's a little scrunchie but at least people don't freak out when looking at it!

And I'm wearing blue!!!
I will browse through sephora's nail polishes after gym today in pursuit of a cadet blue one :)

message 189: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) OK, I have a bunch or ARC's to read - I would totally do them in 12 days if not for work and GR time - so I'm need some help choosing my blue cover ones. Options:

Runes by Ednah Walters The Testing (The Testing, #1) by Joelle Charbonneau Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1) by Richelle Mead - this one is my favorite but the cover is more suited to the moonstone team :(

Not an ARC but a new release: Time Thief (Traveller, #1) by Katie MacAlister , but, since Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse, #13) by Charlaine Harris is due on the same date and I'm going to use it for the uniform theme, I wanted to read the book color before the 7th

*sigh*

I guess Runes will be the chosen one. I can always opt for finishing Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman since Unwholly buddy read is almost there.

message 190: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I'll be reading Dead Ever After as soon as it arrives from Amazon.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Pretty blue nails, Sonia! What brand and shade is it? I'm a nail polish fanatic, I must know, lol.

Hm, what book to choose for blue!! I think I vote for Unwholly since you've almost finished it but that's only if you really want to. I'm not sure, lol. I think either of the first two you posted there would count so read the one you think sounds best. You're right, that 3rd one would be great for Moonstone.

What is your uniform from the Sookie book, btw? Just curious. I've never read her so I don't know much about the stories/characters that fit the theme. I know there are people named Sookie, Sam and Bill and there are vampires and I think Sookie is a vampire hunter, maybe? That's about it, LOL.Oh, and it takes place in Louisiana.

She is a bartender and the bar's uniform is black shorts (summer), white shirt and socks, black snickers.

She improved her status a little, now she's a co-owner of the bar, but, I'm sure the usual uniform will be there in one way or another :)

And no, she's not a vampire hunter, she's a telepath (only reads thoughts, can't communicate) and a vampire's girlfriend

Sonia (darktalynn) It was a supermarket brand with no color shade name :( and no quality either.

But I went to my favorite nail polish supplier - an american brand called ANNY and they have a shade that is almost identical but a prettier shade IMO.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Oh, I didn't know she was a bartender, cool idea for a uniform!

LOL @ "no shade name, no quality" -- that should be their slogan for their nail polish, hehehe!!

I've never heard of ANNY, they have adorable bottles! I don't need a new nail polish addiction so I am not going to sit and look at all the colors. I won't! LOL!

message 198: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) LOL
They are pretty. The ANNY counter display is higher than me (not that hard) and every time I look at them I had to remind me that they cost 10 euros a piece, but I always bring one home with me - I stopped going to that store unless I want a new nail polish.

*giggles*

Anyway, I'll probably go with Unwind. I read a bit yesterday and today during lunch, only 69 pages left - will try to finish it after RaT duties, which I totally should be doing instead of procrastinating.
