Cam you read a book a week? Maybe? Well here ya go- Challenge yourself to read a book a week for the month of July. Get crackin', smokin and go book crazy!

Oh wait- there are some guidelines ;-)

For this month you get categories. You can only read one book per category. So you cannot read two books that start with "J" for example.

Categories
1. Read a book with a red, white or blue cover. You may only do one color for this category. SO For week one, you can read a book with a white cover, but for any of the other weeks, the book MUST fall in another category to count, so no blue covered books unless you are using it under another category :) pick wisely.
2. A book that begins with the letter "J" The, A, If are exempt, you can pretend like the little words do not exist
3. A book with 500 pages or more 125 pages a day, you can do it!
4. An author from a country you wish to travel to Basically an author NOT from your own country
5. Re-read your favorite book.
6. Read a book off a friends to-read list. And list the friend

Duration
July 1st to July 29th (monday-monday)

Rules
Like stated above, one category a week, cannot double a category (even if it is a different color).
Must post what category you are doing for the week
Must complete a book a week :)

So you have: 6 categories. 4 weeks. 4 books. Go!

Yes, any and all e-books are allowed! And yes definitely double up books! Its always exciting when that works in your advantage!

Catherine wrote: "are we only allowed to do 4? can we do all 6?"

Well the challenge is to read a book a week, using those six categories ( so you wont do two of them)

Due to extraordinary circomstances (huge thunder and wind storm with broken trees and loss of power. Cables were ripped off exterior walls of houses needing an electrician's work before Hydro could repair the cables and put back power on!)there is no way I will be able to read a book with more than 500 pages this week. So I am going to change my last week category to:

5. Re-read your favorite book.

I feel like I am cheating because it is a very short book, but I have no choice! Back to fridge cleanup now, then groceries!

Kelani | 57 comments For this challenge we read one book a week but they all fall into a different category. Right? So one week I read a red, white or blue cover book. Then next week it's a book that starts with a J. Then the following week a different category, is that correct?

message 22: by Margot (last edited Jun 29, 2013 04:20PM) (new)

Margot (margotmontreal) | 166 comments That's what I understood Kelani,
Also, there are 4 weeks in July so you pick 4 categories out of 6, because you have 1 week to read each book, and each one has to be from a different category.
I just happen to have 2 books who fall in the same categories. Both could be in cover colour and both are more than 500 pages, but I have to put each one in a different category.
I am so grateful I am allowed to read in french, because I read much faster in french than I do in english (depending on the book of course).

message 23: by Kelani (new)

Kelani | 57 comments Oh, okay. That makes a lot more sense! Thank you! That is cool that you can read in French!!! Good luck!

Truthfully I only read it because I wanted to know if it was as bad as people make it out to be. I thought it was just okay. I didn't hate it like a lot of people seem to. The middle part which deals with what it's like to grow up with a mentally ill parent was a lot more interesting then the genital obsessed beginning.

message 36: by Kelani (new)

Kelani | 57 comments Ohhh. I wish I could have made it that far! I have read Seabold's other books and thought they were good but this one fell short for me. I tried but just could not get into it! At all. Maybe I will give it a try again one day! What did you rate it?

message 37: by amber (new)

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 243 comments I only gave it two stars. Because I didn't like the start and it went on to long. In a different mood I might have given it a three. I don't think you're missing out on much if you don't read it, but I did find the middle section interesting. I also think Sebold tries too hard to be shocking and just takes people out of what are interesting questions of where and when you break away from your parents and how a child deals with having parents who need to be taken care of in a way the rest of the world doesn't really understand.
What did you think of Lucky?
I read The Lovely Bones and liked it well enough until the (view spoiler) chapter.
