1. Battle of the Sexes: Read 1 book by a female author and 1 book by a male author about the same type of thing, person, event, etc. How do they compare? (This can be fiction or non fiction. Examples would be two mystery authors, or 2 biographies about the same person.)
2. Out with the old, In with the new: Read 1 book that has been on your to read list for a really long time and 1 book that has been added really recently. Or 1 book that was published over 50 years ago and 1 book that will be published during this challenge. (September 2012 through March 2013)
3. Intimidating Read: Read 1 book that is very intimidating to you, then read 1 fun book as a reward.
4. Birthday Celebrations: Read 1 book each by 2 different authors with birthdays during the challenge time. September through March. This website may help.

- October 4 is Anne Rice's birthday.
- November 11 is Kurt Vonnegut's birthday.
- December 16 is Jane Austen's birthday.
- January 1 is J.D. Salinger's birthday.

For example you might read "This Is Where I Leave You" and "Two Alone" by Sandra Brown as it makes the sentence "This is where I leave you two alone" or you could read "I Am The Messenger" and "In a Sunburned Country" as it makes the sentence "I am the messenger in a sunburned country." It can be zany and nonsensical but it has to be a proper sentence.
