rivka Not sure, but it may have been YA. The protagonist is in his late teens or maybe early twenties, living in the relatively near future (maybe 2050), and travels back repeatedly to the same year -- maybe mid 1980s? Which is probably also about when I read it.

He was genetically engineered or somehow otherwise not normally born, with, IIRC, several genetic parents. There is a girl in the past that is part of the reason he keeps going back. It is NOT The Time Traveler's Wife, although like in that book, I believe he could not bring anything (including clothes) with him when he went back in time.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Hmm. This doesn't really fit because this was a normally born man but could it be Replay by Ken Grimwood?

(I'm quite sure this is not it but, along with The Time Traveler's Wife, I really enjoyed this book, so I thought I'd throw it out there. Good luck. It sounds interesting!)

rivka Definitely not it. And already on my to-read list. ;)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments You should read it. It's good! And I apologize: I generally try to give suggestions only when I'm reasonably sure they might be the right book and this time I was almost sure it wasn't. I do hope someone figures this out for you Rivka, because it does sound interesting.

rivka Lisa wrote: "You should read it. It's good!"

Yeah, about 7 people on my friends list agree on this one. ;)

April Ann (bloomer) | 515 comments Collidescope by Grace Chetwin Collidescope by Grace Chetwith, 1990.

Summary: When his spaceship crashes to earth, a highly advanced alien interferes with the lives of two teenagers--on a Delaware Indian--living on the island of Manhattan during different centuries.

rivka Nope. No aliens in mine. Also much too recent.

Thanks for trying!

April Ann (bloomer) | 515 comments The descriptions on this one refer mainly to the girl than the time traveller.

Lightning by Dean Koontz Lightning by Dean Koontz, 1988.

Summary: Aided through many crises by the almost miraculous intervention of a stranger, Laura Shane learns the nature of her awesome destiny when, on her thirtieth birthday, the stranger finally requests her help.

rivka No, she's too old. The girl was max about 20 at the end of the book.

I know I haven't given you much to work with -- thanks for trying.

rivka No other suggestions? Darn.

Summer | 41 comments Scroll down to literature and see if any of these look familiar:

rivka Cool link. Sadly, none of those are it. The first one has some parallels, but it's definitely not the one I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Rivka, Don't give up hope. I've found a couple of books that took months, in one case I'm sure over a year, to find. Hopefully, you'll find this sooner, but bump it up if needed.

Kinsey Swartz (tvindy) | 131 comments I don't know if this will help with the search, but having eyes of two different colors is called "heterochromia".

Summer | 41 comments It is good to note; though only an uber-geek would use the medical term in his or her book review.

Summer | 41 comments Have you tried asking here: http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/4... ?
Only 30 members, but it is a group dedicated to reading time travel.

I seem to have invested myself in your quest probably because your description reminded me of components from two of my favorite books Abarat, Book 1 Abarat and The Time Traveler's Wife.

rivka I doubt this book has enough literary merits for the folks in that group to have heard of it. ;) It was fun, but not great literature. ;)

And it was actually read TTTW a couple years back that reminded me of this book. I've been trying to find it off and on ever since.

rivka Kinsey wrote: "I don't know if this will help with the search, but having eyes of two different colors is called "heterochromia"."

I knew that but hadn't thought to use it as a search term. Sadly, it looks like there's far too many anime/manga and comics uses of it to be much use. ;)

Mike (3lan) | 46 comments I have seen a few stories with two differently colored eyes;

One was The Man Who Folded Himself ()

then again, it also seems like I have "seen" this in an episode of the "Twilight Zone" (but as I get older, memories are starting to become a little fuzzy ;-)

rivka *hopeful bump*

Any other thoughts?

April Ann (bloomer) | 515 comments Krono by Charles L. Harness, 1988

Ambitious, overcomplicated time-travel saga from the author of The Paradox Men (1984). In the future, following a nuclear war, the population of Earth is rebounding rapidly. But with much of the globe a radioactive desert, what to do with all the people? The solution: plant colonies in Earth's distant past!

rivka Good candidate. But I looked at some other summaries, and it's not it.

Thanks for trying!

rivka Anyone else?

Holly | 60 comments How about this one:

The Hour of the Outlaw

Even though it sounds not even remotely like the plot you described it does seem to have someone with two differently colored eyes. I did a search on google books and that's what came up:

rivka Much too recent. But thanks for trying!

Annmarie (svea) | 9 comments Time Out of Mind by John Maxim? Doesn't sound right but worth a shot maybe.

rivka Looks interesting, and it was published about the right time, but no. I may add it to my to-read list, though!

rivka Two excellent candidates!

The Sleator book is a definite to-read, and I certainly read lots of Sleator back then. But the protagonist had no siblings in the one I'm trying to find, so it can't be it.

The Danger Quotient looks barely possible. I think probably not, but worth the $4 to be sure. So I'm ordering a copy.

Interesting. The Danger Quotient is by the same Annabel Johnson who wrote Torrie, a book I loved as a kid, a completely different type of book, but I think I'll check it out.

rivka Nikki should be getting commission. ;)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments My to-read shelf is already creaking. But, yes, thank you Nikki. I hope Rivka finds her book but in the meantime, we're all finding books new to us!

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments As far as I'm concerned, finding new books to read is an "Easter egg" of membership in this group. ;) Though I have to admit, I'm very curious about the book in question.

rivka So am I! ;)

rivka rivka wrote: "The Danger Quotient looks barely possible. I think probably not, but worth the $4 to be sure. So I'm ordering a copy."

Definitely worth the money -- this is the book! I just got home to find it in my mailbox, so I haven't read through it again (yet), but I skimmed the first few pages and the last few, and this is it!

Thanks, Nikki! :)

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Awesome! I'm so glad to hear it. :)

rivka Maybe you want to try your hand at my other unsolved? ;)
