Hi Guys,

Another pretty self explanatory thread - what was the last book you read, was it any good? why did you think so? Was it rubbish??

Has the book been sat on your shelf for a couple of years, or did you go out and buy it and read it immediately??

I decided to put this thread in off-topic as the last book you read may or may not have been fantasy or sci-fi!

The last book I finished was....The Tempest by William Shakespeare! It was a good read, and it's been sat on my shelf for years. So I'm glad that I gave it a read!!

I read Watchmen, and enjoyed it quite a bit! That's one book down for the Ultimate Booklist =)

I just finished The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection From The Living Dead today.

I just finished reading How to Be a Woman - it was brilliant!! I highly recommend it :D

The last book I read was Cold Days... Although I should admit, I read the whole Dresden Files in one big binge.

The last book I read was The Falconer, a paranormal fantasy in a steampunk corsett set in Edinburgh.
If you are familiar with Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series, it's a bit like that with less romance and humor -although it has both- and a bit more action.
It was enjoyable, but not an earth-shattering revelation of awesome.

Hmm, I've seen quite a few reviews of that one. I'm looking to read more steampunk so maybe that would be a good choice =)

It depends on what you really want. It has some steampunkish elements like gadgets, but it's not a real steampunk book, cause it has zero "punk" elements in it, like political upheavel, clash of social classes or getting rid of monarchies.

I recently finished Prince of Thorns. I knew the protagonist wouldn't be the likeable hero and that's the reason why I chose this book. But I really needed some time to get used to the idea of an antihero and I also had some problems with the writing style in the beginning. But in the end, I enjoyed the story and I think I'll continue this series soon.

I finished Mage's Blood tonight, which I really liked, although the cultural similarities to our world were too obvious for my taste.

I read The Way of Kings and Space Captain Smith which I both enjoyed very much.

The Hero of Ages - after the botm read of the first book of the Mistborn series, I just had to continue reading. I really enjoyed all three books!

I just finished Annihilation...it was really good! Very creepy and yet also fast-paced, and had a very "cinematic" feel...I will not be surprised at all if it gets made into a movie or TV series. Book 2 comes out next month, can't wait!

Red Country by Joe Abercrombie, which would count for this months villain... except I started it on 29th March! =(

Just finished Perfume: The Story of a Murderer - and I didn't enjoy it all! Anyone else read it?

It's got so many good reviews - I just didn't gel with it very well :/

I watched the film but I was somewhat disturbed and I didn't get on with it either!

Hmm, I thought I recognised the title, but not as a book. Maybe it was the film I've heard of...

Words of Radiance was amazing! And it's slightly insane that the expected publication date for the next one is 2015. He writes so quickly! Not that I'm complaining :P

The thing that boggles my mind is not only is that book set for 2015, but he will also put out at least two books from different series before it comes out. By far my favorite author right now.

The guy is seriously amazing. We are very lucky to have him around doing so many great things.

What boggles my mind is that he apparently lectures, writes his books, finishes other books, and participates in all sorts of things - his organisation and multitasking is awe inspiring!

The last book I read... I tried reading the Dragonlinked but dropped it halfway. I felt the plot to be just too slow, with half the book simply going over ' dragon: a wonderful discovery/ pal' and the 'how to train your dragon' thing.

I then switched to The Blue Dragon's Geas: Outcast, a 3 of 5 book.

A Dance of Cloaks. Promising idea, poor execution.

I finished Emperor of Thorns last night and loved it. A perfect ending for this series and now I can't wait to start his new one!

Retribution Falls - AMAZING! So glad I picked this up when I could. Now to read the other four, but I have the wonderful suspicion that one of my local libraries had the rest of the series there when I picked up this one :D

@Rinn: I loved Retribution Falls. It was just like a Firefly episode - I always pictured the characters like those from the tv series :)

It gave me more of a Firefly feel towards the end, at least it regards to the crew when they were more united. But yes, it definitely has that vibe :D Have you read the others?

The last book I read was The Crown of the Blood. It's decent, but my expectations sort of ruined it for me. Here's my review if anyone's interested. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it or not.

So far I've only read the first one, but I'm planning to get back to this series after I've caught up a little bit more with the Dresden Files. I hope that the The Black Lung Captain is as good as Retribution Falls- I'm really looking forward to it.

I noticed that the average rating of each book gets higher as the series goes on, Trillian :P Good sign!

I just finished The Pendragon Legend Antal Szerb - it was really good! I definitely recommend it.

Lexicon by Max Barry, another great read. I was sent this by Hodderscape so I'll be reviewing it soon :D

I last read Graveminder by Melissa Marr, found it in the Works so I don't mind, the story idea is fun but it is a little too YA - love triangle...

I just finished The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Vol I: The Pox Party - but I really didn't enjoy the ending very much which was disappointing - it had a lot of promise. Not inclined to pick up the sequel.

Finally finished Blood & Beauty: The Borgias last night - love the Borgias, and this was a great fictional account of their lives :)

oooh! I loved the TV show "The Borgias", and this book looks really good - on the list it goes!

Finished Flowers for Algernon recently - one of my favourite books this year! And today I read the last pages of The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle. A quick and enjoyable read. I loved the tv series when I was younger, so I finally had to read the book too :)

The last book I read was Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz. It's an interesting read as it looks at how at the moment we have too much choice and how it could be making us unhappy with ways of coping with it and perhaps getting round it. He's also done a ted talk on the subject which can be found

Just finished this book off, I'd have to say that if you like urban fantasy then you will like the Iron Druid Chronicles. If you do pick it up then don't start with this one, you need to start with Hounded
