Zara's Retreat can anyone point me to direction of where I could find a list of new releases for aussie authors?

message 203: by Rachael (new)

Rachael | 94 comments Wasn't sure if I was going to do this challenge but ... having only one book left on what I thought might be an impossible Autumn Challenge, I am going to give this one a go too!

Here is my list:
1. Long term TBR: Friday Brown by Vikki Wakefield
2. Winter release: What Came Before by Anna George 25 June release date
3. Miles Franklin: Breath by Tim Winton
4. YA: Two Weeks with the Queen by Morris Gleitzman '
5. (a) Real: Three Cups of Tea One Man's Mission to Promote Peace ... One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson
5. (b) Fake: Murder and Mendelssohn (Phryne Fisher #20) by Kerry Greenwood
6. Winter: Whiteout by Ken Follett
7. Borrowed: The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty from the library (not a stretch for me - I borrow a lot from my library)
8. Literature map - put in Kerry Greenwood and got Jonnie Jacobs (whose books I have never read) Murder Among Strangers (Kate Austen, #4) by Jonnie Jacobs
9.Summery cover by Aussie author: Sunset Ridge by Nicole Alexander
10. (a) Naughty: The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
10. (b) Nice: Last Chance Saloon by Marian Keyes

I think I changed 80% of my books on the Autumn challenge when it came time to read depending on what was available or my mood or seeing other people's ratings on books they had read for the challenge so this list will no doubt be subject to change but it is a starting point.

Zara, within our group there is this link /topic/show/... and also the Bookshelf which is on the right hand side of each page in this group: /group/books...

Oh, Bette I loved Autumn Laing. I think it was one of my favourites of his. Not that I've read that many mind you!!! I think too it's because it's loosely ( perhaps not so loosely) based on Sunday Reed and Sidney Nolan and that whole Heidi era which I'm fascinated by. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I noticed I had given it 3 stars but changed that to 4 as I did really enjoy it. I wonder why I was initially so stingy with my rating? Your other choices are great too.

Alex Miller is one Aust author who I know I am going to love with each new book. Thanks, I'm striving to get all my choices from my TBR (where I can) as it stands at a big 765 total.

Yes he really is quite talented and under rated I think. He's as good as, if not better than some other Aussie authors and yet he's probably not as well known. The way you're powering through your books Bette, I'm sure you'll have that TBR down in no time....unless of course you keep adding at the rate you're reading!!! But it's all good. :)

I'm trying not to add books at the moment but I always do when I see others reading something I'd like to read. I LOVE how much book info I get from everyone here.

But first will either be my "real" read - Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey by The Countess Of Carnarvon or my winter cover read - The Sins of the Father (The Clifton Chronicles #2) by Jeffrey Archer The Sins of the Father by Jeffrey Archer And at the moment, I think I'm inclining toward the Jeffrey Archer - perhaps :-)

I loved your review Phrynne. I read this book last year and loved it as well for all the reasons you mentioned. It was also very close to home for me as I have a son who has a learning difficulty which has caused him no end of trouble in the schooling system. We actually pulled him out of school to homeschool him as we weren't happy with how he was being treated. It was the best thing we could have done.

Thanks Zara. I did feel that the school Auggie attended was a tiny bit too perfect to be real! But that's what makes a good story. In real life it is more likely that home schooling is the better option. I'm glad it worked for you and your son:)
