Historical Fiction for our purposes is defined as anything set in the past, in a time that the author did not directly experience.

This book is about the American Civil War.
2. Lorna Doone by R.D. Blackmore
This book was written in the 19th century, but is set in the 17th century.

Set during the French Revolution.
4. Barometer Rising by Hugh MacLennan Set in December 1917.

5. Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay Set in early 20th century Australia
6. Water Rat by Marnie Laird Set in 18th century Delaware
