DHASG April Challenge

Introduction: April is here! Spring has officially arrived! April promises rainy days, but those rainy days lead to beautiful flowers in May. Enjoy this first blush of spring, and let it be the beginning of a lovely spring full of good reads.

Rules:

1. Any DHASG member can participate in the challenge.
2. Books must be read between April 1st and April 30th.
3. A book may only be used once in the challenge.
4. Please sign up and list your stats or link to the completed stats listing when you finish the challenge.
5. In your stats, include book title, author, date read, and how it represents the specific part of the challenge.
6. Enjoy and happy reading.

Levels:

1. Spring Fever: read 9-12 books.
2. Spring Fling: read 5-8 books.
3. Spring Chicken: read 3-4 books.

Categories
:

1.Like Bunnies Do: Rabbits make us think of spring, and rabbits are notoriously fertile. Plus, many animals have new babies in the spring. Read a book where a prominent character is pregnant and gives birth in the book.
2.Libraries, The Friends that Keep on Giving!: Week 1 in April is Library Week. Libraries are magical places, opening us into new worlds. Let's honor libraries by reading a library book or you could read a book about libraries or with a prominent character who is a librarian.
3.April Fool's Day! The Joke's On You!: April 1st is April Fool's Day, traditionally the day on which people play elaborate jokes on each other. Read a book where the lead character is the butt of someone's joke.
4.Sing: For National Karaoke Week, let's celebrate the art of singing. Read a book where the story revolves around singing, or has a prominent character who sings, either professionally or as a hobby.
5.Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire: For Tell a Lie Day, on April 4th, it's supposed to be okay to tell a lie. We're not recommending lying, but you can definitely read a book that involves the results or consequences of lying.
6.Go For Broke!: April 5th is the day to take a chance, put it all on the line. Read a book that represents this concept "of going for broke,"
7.National Dandelion Day: April 5th is also the day to celebrate dandelions, a flower that is also a weed. Read a book that represents a fact about dandelions. You can find information about them here:
8.National Beer Day: April 7th is the day that it became legal to make, consume or buy beer again in the US after the repeal of Prohibition. To celebrate, let's focus on the alcoholic drink, beer. Read a book that relates to a fact about beer. You can find out about beer here, but you're only limited by your imagination and knowledge of beer:
9.Zoo Lovers Day: April 8th, is the day set aside to appreciate zoos, places where exotic animals live and can be visited by people. The heart of a zoo is the animals. Read a book that represents an animal that might be kept in a zoo. In other words, not a domesticated animal like a dog, cat, horse or cow. The animal could be on the cover, it could be in the book.
10.All is Ours: This holiday on April 8th always ends up on our challenge for April because it's such a rich concept. It's all up to you. How would a book illustrate "All is Ours?"
11.Husband Appreciation Day: The third Saturday in April is set aside for appreciating husbands. Read a book where a lead character is a husband.
12.Easter Egg Hunt: For this part of the challenge, you can hunt out your type of holiday to represent to add to your own Easter Basket. Choose one of the following: National Jelly Bean Day, National Stress Awareness Day, Easter Day, Take a Chance Day, National High Five Day.

Heather LiteratureChick (literaturechick) DHASG APRIL 2017 MONTHLY CHALLENGE
Level: Going to try for Spring Chicken (3-4 books).

BOOKS COMPLETED: 3/3-4 books.
1.Like Bunnies Do(pregnancy/birth) - The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.
2.Libraries(library book) - The Wonder by Emma Donoghue. READ 8/04/2017 - 16/04/2017. ★★. REVIEW: I felt that I had to keep reading to find out what was going on with the main character in this book. I found some parts were difficult to read and I was surprised by the reasoning for the girls situation she was in. I found some of the characters rather annoying as to their gullible nature. I was surprised and satisfied with the ending at the same time, though it all seemed to happen rather quickly and was tied together rather easily at the end, seemed almost to easy. I found that some parts of the book dragged on a bit.
3.April Fools Day(cruel stalker type joke) - I See You by Clare Mackintosh.
5.Liar, Liar - Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.
6.Go For Broke(risking it all for love) - Rogue Alpha by Kimber White. READ FROM 22/4/2017 - 23/4/2017. ★★★★.5.
REVIEW: A good werewolf shifter romance. A bit of insta-love/chemistry between characters. This is the first book I have read by Kimber White. I don't usually read shifter books. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series and perhaps trying the other shifter romance series this author has written as well. Alpha male werewolf shifters claiming their forever mates.
7.National Dandelion Day(dandelions are yellow) - Good as Gone by Amy Gentry.
8.Beer(beer can be bio-engineered - like the people in this book) - Company Town by Madeline Ashby. [2017 Canada Reads nominee on the short list]
9.Zoo Lover's Day(lion on the cover) - Nostalgia by M.G. Vassanji. [2017 Canada Reads Nominee on the short list]
10.All Is Ours - Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.
11.Husband Appreciation Day(book features a husband) - The Dinner by Herman Koch. READ FROM 15/04/2017 - 16/04/2017. ★★.5. REVIEW: I will give this book a rating of 3.5. I liked the writing style and the chosen narrator, I feel, added to the story. I like how the little details were held back from the reader until just the right moment. How far will parents go to protect their children? How far is too far? I just started this last night and I found that it was a quick read. I am interested to see how they transfer this novel to the big screen starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney.
12.Easter Egg Hunt(Garden Week, read a book with a flower or flowers on the cover) - This Is Not Over by Holly Brown.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood The Wonder by Emma Donoghue I See You by Clare Mackintosh Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty Rogue Alpha (Wild Lake Wolves, #1) by Kimber White Good as Gone by Amy Gentry Company Town by Madeline Ashby
Nostalgia by M.G. Vassanji Dark Matter by Blake Crouch The Dinner by Herman Koch This Is Not Over by Holly Brown

BOOKS COMPLETED
The Dinner by Herman Koch The Wonder by Emma Donoghue Rogue Alpha (Wild Lake Wolves, #1) by Kimber White
