This had all of the elements of a book I should have loved but it sort of fell flat for me. It was great for the first half of the book but then kind of fizzled out after that.

Eh, could have been better, in my opinion. The reveal of the miniaturist felt more like an after thought.

It was my first graphic novel and I wasn’t sure if I would like it. Yes, I recommend it. I have to read the next one. I want so see where this goes.

I have the 7 1/2 deaths....glad to see you have it four stars. I haven’t read it yet.

David Haynes | 3257 comments Shdowland has been on my list since Ghost Story buy it's difficult to get hold of over here.

Just finished Necronomicon: The Best Weird Tales Necronomicon The Best Weird Tales by H.P. Lovecraft
It took me ten months to finish it because I was dipping in and outf of it all last year. There were some truly outstanding takes in the collection but several missed the mark, for me anyway. Still classic reading though!

message 25: by Cujo (new)

Cujo (deadtimestories) | 44 comments Not sure if this question fits in this particular thread, but I'll ask anyway. Last weekend I purchased The Last American Vampire and I just saw that it is a sequel to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer. Now my ? is, do I have to read Abraham Lincoln first to understand it?

message 26: by Dean (new)

Working on A. Lee Martinez’s “Gil’s all fright diner fantastic and easy horror comedy.

message 27: by Char (new)

Char | 17385 comments I enjoyed the heck out of NOS4A2 as well. (If you want to learn more about Christmasland and Charlie Manx, I highly recommend this graphic novel: Wraith Wraith by Joe Hill .

I finished The Last by Hanna Jameson by Hanna Jameson and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a post apocalyptic type story combined with a mystery.

message 30: by Emily Kestrel (new)

Emily Kestrel | 18 comments I just finished Devil's Island by Mark Lukens . I thought it was a pretty good story but the pacing was kind of off--too slow for the first part of the book and too hectic at the end. Even so, I enjoyed it.

message 31: by Dean (new)

Dean McCann | 4 comments Awesome, thanks for the Wraith recommendation. Added! Joe Hill is my new obsession right now.

message 43: by Klee (new)

Klee (kleebers) So far this year I've read these horror books:

The Nightmare Room (The Messy Man, #1) by Chris Sorensen - Pretty good. Not my favorite haunted house story, but definitely worth a read.

Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr. - The movie was way better, that's all I'll say.

Shiver Selected Stories by Junji Ito - I'm a big fan of Junji Ito, so this was a hit for me.

Kill Creek by Scott Thomas - Another haunted house story, but unique enough that I really enjoyed it.

Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep, #1) by Mira Grant - I LOVED this book. Great characters, great story, creepy monsters. Sort of like Arrival meets creature horror.

Jennifer | 449 comments I've just finished Bird Box , which was pretty good.

Does anyone know the significance behind the number of birds at the start of each chapter? There's either one or two, but it doesn't seem to follow a pattern or is linked to past and present story.

message 48: by Frank (new)

Frank A S | 2 comments Just finished the Variant Effect : Madhouse 3 - Burn by G. Wells Taylor. Not a standalone read so you would have to start at the beginning but they are all worth it. My favorite author since looking for "free" eBooks The Variant Effect: Madhouse 3 - BURN

It was okay. I got this at a Free Little Library so I didn't know it was the second book in a series. Maybe if I had read book one first, I would have enjoyed this one more.
