F.R.B. Not a question, but a comment -

The wording for Rule 2 is ambiguous and ableist. It specifically excludes autistic people and the way they communicate. A personal attack is not the same as “negative, whatever that means. It should be clarified for specificity.

Hi Fennarama, thank you for your comment! It is absolutely not our intention to exclude autistic people and we would gladly talk to you about improving our wording. Please message me or one of the other mods, so we can resolve this issue.

Hi Heather, I moved your personal challenge topic to the 101-200 folder: /topic/show/...

oshizu | 5762 comments When books I've finished reading appear in my Goodread friends' updates (because they recently started/finished reading that book or marked it Want to Read), my books appear as "Want to Read."

This has started happening to me today. Am I the only one?

Edited to add: Huh, 15 minutes later and it's fixed. LOL

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Hi there, I have recently tried to create a 2020 personal reading challenge topic, but it claims I need to verify my email? I already have! Could you help me please?

Ilona | 4698 comments Margaret wrote: "Hi there, I have recently tried to create a 2020 personal reading challenge topic, but it claims I need to verify my email? I already have! Could you help me please?"

Hi Margaret, this happens sometimes. To (re-)verify your email address, click on your profile picture and select Account Settings. Then navigate to your Settings tab. If your email address isn't verified, you'll see a red message next to it - click "re-send verification email" and follow the instructions in the email you receive.

If this doesn't solve the problem or if you don't see the the "re-send verification email" option, I suggest that you contact ŷ by sending an email to [email protected]

Please DM me if it is a yes, or there is a better way to do this for this group. Thank you.

Hi Y, we do not allow any book promotion by authors in this group. Any promotional messages will be removed.

aarja (aarjak) | 27 comments Hey! So, I wanted to ask; do you change your title every year? So like, next year it would be 2021 Reading Challenge?

message 62: by Ilona (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments Aarja wrote: "Hey! So, I wanted to ask; do you change your title every year? So like, next year it would be 2021 Reading Challenge?"

Yes we do! At the end of this year we will briefly be the 2020 & 2021 Reading Challenge group and on Jan 1 we change the name to 2021 Reading Challenge

aarja (aarjak) | 27 comments Oh, okay, thanks!

Many thanks!

@Fiona
Your Personal Challenge thread has been moved to the 51-75 folder as you requested. I edited your thread tile to Fantastic 60 (from Fantastic Fifty) but now you've lost that nice alliteration.
You can edit your thread's title by clicking "(edit)" at the title's end.
The link to your thread remains unchanged, though it's in a different folder. :D
Happy reading!

Carol Palmer | 526 comments I don't know if I can even get this to post. After being a member of this group & posting almost every day, as of 9/24/2020, I'm no longer able to edit or post. Help please! I haven't knowingly changed any settings.

message 67: by Carol (new)

Carol Palmer | 526 comments I can post (obviously), but cannot edit. It gives me a message that an edit is already in process, and lets me cancel my edit effort, but will not post the edit. I think there must be a setting that got stuck in the edit process for me & it needs to be reset.

message 68: by oshizu (new)

oshizu | 5762 comments @Carol
Other members have also been having problems with posting and editing comments today. It's been going on for several hours now. I had the same issue a few days ago.
I think there's nothing to be done except to take a break from ŷ for a bit then return and try again.
I'm pretty sure it's a ŷ issue, not a problem with our group or your account/settings, Carol.

Hi Rachel, there is indeed an issue with editing comments in ŷ groups right now. The ŷ developers are working on it, so hopefully they can fix this bug soon.

Ashleigh Motbey (ashybear02) | 1686 comments Hi mods!

Is there anywhere that can be announced that November's group read The Zodiac Killer is currently free on Kobo and Kindle? I just went to source it and downloaded it as it's free! I don't know how long it would last so thought it might be worth letting anyone wishing to participate know!

message 75: by Ilona (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments Hi Ashley, I think that the Let's Chat folder is probably the best place for this. Just go ahead and post a new topic there :)

Hi Ashley, do you mean on ŷ in general or in this group?
On you own profile page you can of course share whatever you wish with your friends. Here in the group you can set up your own personal challenge topic and share bookish updates there. Does this answer your question?

Hello Alyanna
No, it won't get carried over automatically in the scenario you described.
IN general, however, it's best to post any questions about Buddy Reads in the Buddy Reads Sign-Up thread. The two group moderators in charge of managing Buddy Read are SarahKat and Trisha, and are best positioned to handle any Buddy Read-related questions.
:D

Honestly, it's a logical choice to have posted your question here since the thread is called "Questions for Mods."
The Buddy Reads section has two moderators dedicated to that activity, though, so you'll get a faster, more accurate response to related questions in their thread.
The only reason I could answer your question is that I have a "history" of suggesting books that nobody else wants to read. LOL!

Re-reads are definitely allowed and the number of pages does not matter. Unless specifically mentioned in the challenge description.

Courtney Renee (courtneyreneex3) | 94 comments For the Serial Reader Challenge:

For it to be considered a finished series, do we just go by what is published at the time? for example: the bromance book club series has another book coming out next year. If I read that series including newest published with all listed books, is that considered finished even if its not?

also, do comics/graphic novel series count?

thanks!

message 94: by oshizu (new)

oshizu | 5762 comments Courtney,

For Serial Reader, you don't need to finish the entire series for the books to count. You can count any book that is part of a series.

With Brandon Sanderson's incomplete Mistborn series, for example, i placed Book 1 in the Start a Series" category and the other available books in the "Part of a Series" category.

If you're reading comics/graphic novels, you can count them, too.

message 98: by oshizu (new)

oshizu | 5762 comments Mary
Yes. You can apply a single book to multiple challenges. You just can't apply a book to multiple prompts within the same challenges.
