Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9831 comments I finished After the Storm by Linda Castillo. In the aftermath of a tornado the bones of a man who disappeared decades ago come to light. Police Chief Kate Burkholder investigates. The setting of the book - in the Amish community - adds interest to the story. 4 stars.

Eileen | 11 comments I just finished Consigned to Death ; Consigned to Death (A Josie Prescott Antiques Mystery #1) by Jane K. Cleland first one in the Josie Prescott series. Josie has moved to New Hampshire from New York to get a fresh start. She is all set to appraise the contents of a house when the owner is murdered and she becomes the prime suspect. The antique business aspect was interesting as were the main characters although I thought Josie became tearful too often. I am planning to look for the second book in this series.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9831 comments I finished The Affair by Lee Child. This 16th book in the series goes back to 1997 when Jack Reacher was an army MP. When a young woman is brutally raped and murdered near a military base, Jack is sent to investigate - and hopefully to deflect attention from the army.

3.5 stars.

Mary Beth I love Jack Reacher.

I just finished Triptych and highly recommend it. It was scary good. I loved it.

Lisa (ylisa7) | 25 comments I finished Runner by Patrick Lee last night. This was a buddy read for me and I really enjoyed it. If you like Lee Child's Jack Reacher or Robert Crais's Joe Pike give this Sam Dryden series a try. I have found a new author just what I need, lol.

I also finished The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy which was another good one by Rachel Joyce.

I will be finishing up The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant today. It is about a woman who is born to immigrant parents in Boston in 1900. It is an interesting account of her life and times.

Next up is The Shed That Fed a Million Childrenby Magnus Macfarlane-Barrow. He is the founder of Mary's Meals.

My real-world book group starts up again at the end of the month with All the Light We Cannot See so I'm making my way through that book right now. So far, I'm not all that overly impressed, considering this novel won a Pulitzer.

Definitely. It's not one I would have chosen for my book group, but a few people wanted to know if we could read it, so I agreed. I'm only at page 136, but so far it reads like a YA novel set in wartime France. I hope it picks up.

Re All the Light We Cannot See
The first line in my review is how I was underwhelmed by it. It had some interesting moments. I think because they were parallel stories except at the end, I felt distanced from the characters. Plus I spent a lot of time anticipating the meeting between the young girl and the German boy and it was very quick and anticlimatic.

message 1237: by Yvonne (last edited Sep 11, 2015 03:57PM) (new)

Yvonne (ysareader) | 53 comments I'm currently reading Where All Light Tends to Go. It appears to be well written but I'm having a hard time reaching for it & it's been sitting around for weeks because it's such a downer.

I'll add Bull Mountain to my list even though they appear to share similar themes of Southern messed up family and drug and meth trade. Maybe it's less depressing.

Ի✌️ (andrew619) | 140 comments I've finished The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I thought that could be more mysterious, more thrilling. But it's more a study on the human nature and the possibilities of split good and evil. Now I'm reading The Hero of Ages, last chapter of the Mistborn trilogy. I loved the first two and I've good expectations for this.

❆ Crystal ❆ (crystal_wright) | 310 comments Same here! I'm wondering what they were smoking when they read it. I read it in February because of all the hype. And, then when I read it, I thought something was really wrong with me... wondering how I could dislike it so much when everyone else "loved it." I gave it 2.5 stars and felt that was pretty generous. I'm glad to see that I'm not alone!
