I'm finishing up the Jane Hawk series from Dean Koontz. I read Intensity and loved it, which brought me to The Silent Corner.

Victoria Carlo | 14 comments Hi all. I am currently reading A Little Life, planning to focus on a range of vintage horror this year.

I am also looking for some advice. Is anyone here a Kindle user?
My bookshelves are overflowing and the lack of space in my home is not ideal.

Now, I have always gained an immense amount of satisfaction from turning a page which has always deterred me from the Kindle. However, I have found myself pondering the purchase. What do you all think of e-readers?

Hey Vicky!

I just bought a kindle paperwhite actually. I bought the kindle because reading ebooks on my computer and phone were straining my eyes. Although, I do enjoy having physical copies and collecting books, I may be using the kindle a lot more.

I like the Kindle because you can transfer ebooks from your pc to kindle, less eye strain for me, you can switch between dark and light modes, and you can hold it with one hand. I also look out for kindle deals on Amazon. Digital versions of books are less expensive than physical copies, so it helps save money.

Hope that helps!

Victoria Carlo | 14 comments Hi Ricky!

That’s really helpful, thank you. I think it might be a good step for me. May encourage me to be less materialistic with books and to collect those physical copies that hold particular value and joy to me ☺️

I think it's worth it! I have recently dug out my Kindle Fire which I think I got in 2013, not sure if they sell them anymore, and I've really been enjoying my ebooks.. I also prefer paper books but sometimes the ease and convenience, and often little better price make it an attractive tool when it comes to reading something you want right now.. I actually just got an ebook that Im reading now and I could have ordered a hardcover but I plopped $13 for an ebook so that I could start right away, cause I can't wait lol.

Just started Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, really curious about the hype but also in a mood for a creepy little read.

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

An isolated mansion. A chillingly charismatic aristocrat. And a brave socialite drawn to expose their treacherous secrets. . . . From the author of Gods of Jade and Shadow comes “a terrifying twist on classic gothic horror (Kirkus Reviews) set in glamorous 1950s Mexico.

Haha I did the same thing! Treated myself to a birthday and Christmas gift. Let me know if you need any help with it or anything,

I did not realize "The Hollow Places" by T. Kingfisher was one of the group reads. I ended up buying it while sale for my Kindle. I might be starting this one soon!

message 29: by Peter (new)

Peter Topside I'm reading a really interesting book, Monster, She Wrote;

/book/show/4...

I think it's written very well and has a bit of humor to it, but also provides some basic histories to well and lesser-known female authors, and gives book recommendations for each. I think that I've added ten books to my list in the last week reading it.

Michael (theneverendingtbr) Nah, I've went with The Thief of Always by Clive Barker ;)

First time read

message 32: by Seb (new)

Seb | 136 comments @Erin:

Well it actually is a good read! I'm hooked up by the plot and find the book quite interesting. Nevertheless, there are only some link between Alice and Alice in Wonderland: basically, there are some characters named like characters from Alice in Wonderland (Alice, The Rabbit, Cheshire,...) but that's all. At least, that's all so far in my reading. I read Alice in Wonderland just before this one to freshen up my memories of it but that was useless I guess.

That's as strange and crazy than Alice in Wonderland, though.

For the moment, I think it'll be a 4 or 5 stars for me, but I wait the end to be sure.

Alice looks twisted. Going on the TBR list.

I'm reading House of Leaves right now. Extremely twisted!

Char | 17388 comments I'm starting a new Christopher Buehlman book. He's one of my favorite contemporary authors and this one is his first foray into dark fantasy. It comes out in May: The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman .

I'm also listening to Betty by Tiffany McDaniel . Not sure where it's going yet, but I like it so far.

Badseedgirl | 1030 comments I am currently reading Unseaming by Mike Allen

This is a collection of short stories very heavy in body horror and Weird Horror. It's not going to be a collection for everyone, but I kind of like it. I'm reading it for the HA 2021 A-Z Challenge and the HA Mount TBR Challenge.
