LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments Welcome to Namibia. We'll be spending this month in the Namib desert at a government school.

Here are some links to reviews. Be cautious though if you don't like spoilers and haven't read the book.

I read the Back Bay Books paperback edition that has an interesting "conversation" with the author at the end of the book. I do not know if it appears in other editions.

I'm still thinking about how or whether to divide up the discussion. I'm leaning to two threads, with the first being Chapters 1-19 and the second the rest of the book. I think those first 19 chapters provide a good sample for discussion of style and place.

Who will be joining in?

Kathleen | 350 comments I will be reading this one. I've just started, and it's very intriguing! I have a love of short chapters (that fit into short reading times) so having these bite-sized ones is a plus for me.

Enjoyed your review, Linda!

message 3: by Margaret (new) - added it

Margaret I'll be joining in as well. Thanks for taking the lead, Linda!

Karsten | 7 comments I'll be joining too. I've read about halfway through the book so far and finding it very interesting.

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments Kathleen, Margaret, and Karsten - Great to have you along on our Namibian adventure.

Stacia | 261 comments I am planning to read it too. Just got it from the library and am hoping to start reading later today.

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments Welcome Stacia!

Jenna | 149 comments I enjoyed it, felt like sitting with someone flipping through an old photo album of snaps. Love how evocative of place and also how true to life it felt to me, capturing humanity in the small things.

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments Hi Jenna, nice to have you with us!

All, I've posted a second thread - /topic/show/... - for discussion of style, structure, and place, using the first 19 chapters of the book.
