Milind I want to start the Shadowhunter Chronicles, but am afraid to since there are soooooo many books!

The best reward is a long series. Trust me. The connection you get with the characters and world. Nothing better.

Ha-ha! Yeah.

Oh, are you excited that Clare will be releases a YA Epic Fantasy outside of the Shadow Hunter verse?

I am! I'm dying to see her fantasy world!!!!! >_<

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments @Erica It hit me that I forgot to recommend a series in the Urban Fantasy genre that is so underrated. I always recommend it, but it skipped my mind.

Tempest Rising (Jane True, #1) by Nicole Peeler Tracking the Tempest (Jane True, #2) by Nicole Peeler Tempest's Legacy (Jane True, #3) by Nicole Peeler Eye of the Tempest (Jane True, #4) by Nicole Peeler Tempest's Fury (Jane True, #5) by Nicole Peeler Tempest Reborn (Jane True, #6) by Nicole Peeler

It's brilliant. One of my fave leads and the humor is amazing!

Arundhati | 1454 comments With only few hours left for the Netflix Shadow and Bone release, how excited are you guys? I am freaking out with all the anticipation. It's 1am here and I am watching all reviews of the show and all the teeny tiny extra footage I can get. I am too excited to go to sleep. The wait was soo long, but I am sure it will be all worth it. :)

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments I guess, I'm still reading and know won't be watching the show for a while. So I'm pretty chill.

I feel completely left out lol. I have not read Shadow and Bone books or anything Leigh Bardugo for that matter. I literally just started SJM XD, I need to get to it...lol.

However, even if I did read Shadow and Bone it probably won't matter because I do not have Netflix lmao.

Yes, I am also reading the series currently so I haven't even watched the trailer, just to avoid any spoilers, but as soon as I am done reading, my next stop would be YouTube for the trailer!!

message 119: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments Yeah avoid the trailers until after you read the shadow and bone trilogy.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments I don't have Netflix either. I'm just going to borrow a friends account when the times comes.

I've been avoiding all trailers and won't be watching them period. At least not until I watch the show. I don't want to be spoiled on any level.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments That's a bummer about the delay. I haven't read the first Crescent City book yet, but that sucks. At least for me it won't be too big of a delay between them when I read'em.

For Epic/High Fantasy I definitely like to wait until a series is almost done or done. I waited 15 years for the final book in a trilogy when I called it quits and promised to never read anything by that author again. (New anyway.) If I hadn't given up it would make 24 years of waiting.

For other genres I like to just go with the flow most of the time. Unless they change formats on me. Like starting a series in paperback, and then switching to hardback. Or I know the books are cliffhanger torture devices.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments Gosh, I've missed everyone! Sorry I haven't been around. I've been so busy trying to find a balance. I got a new job as *drumroll*

A librarian!!!!

I know guys. I know! Of course my third week in we we're doing inventory. So scanning all the books and lifting all the books off for dusting and the shelves. Phew. I got very up close and personal with the books. Which is good. We were also encouraged to pick a section to "look after" and be in charge of. I wasn't so sure if I had chosen right with picking YA as I do love the genre, but I read adult more.

Well. I chose right. The YA section is way more diverse. The adult is still an ungodly amount of Christian Fiction. Mainly Church of Latter Day Saints fiction. Which reminded me why I had quit going to my local library when I was in high school. I had read all the adult books I was interested in genre wise and really the fantasy books haven't changed. Only Brent Weeks and Brandon Sanderson has been added to the adult fantasy line up. Nothing for Sci-Fi. They don't have a single Lisa Kleypas. So on. It's bleak. Which is why I don't think we get very many patrons . . .

I hope I can recommend and try to expand the genres available. But from some of the other librarians I'm not the only one who thinks it's too much only Christian Fiction. It makes sense for our area to have that many, but we're such a diverse community and I doubt even the most religious person only wants to read approved Christian Fiction.

Okay. Ramble done.

How has every body been?

message 141: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments Congrats on the new job! Inventory could be fun to go through and find new to you books for the tbr... it also sounds dangerous ;) Somehow my tbrs have really grown in the first half of this year. 🤷‍♀

Congratulations Shera on getting the job!!!!🎉🎉
I have been great, how have you been?

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments Thanks Erica! Our library is so small any books of interest in the YA section where already on my TBR pile. Ha-ha. But I met check some out just to support their stats, and my job! 😂 I also didn't realize how many Christmas books are out there. Phew.

Thank you Rushali. Glad you're doing great. The group has a ton more members!
Busy and hoping to have some slow down soon, but not sure if that's in my forecast.

message 144: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments What help out the stats of books? I totally don't borrow favourite books to make sure the library keeps them/continues to buy the series. ;)

message 145: by Shera (Book Whispers) (last edited Jun 06, 2021 10:51PM) (new)

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments When ever you check out a book from your library it boosts their stats. Shows that people are checking books out and which sections. We even try to keep track of patrons who come in and use the drive through. It helps with funding.

I knew about the check out helping, but I had no idea that you'd have to go through the video feed and actually figure out how many patrons use the library.

message 146: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments Oh cool never thought of that factor. I also purposely borrow large print to help keep large print options accessible/available. I've learned so much about accessibility options, helping family, from the library over the past few years.

That's a great idea. I have noticed how much large print goes out.

@Kae which version? That is the magic of Alice. All madness. 😉

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments Ah! That's a good introduction. Are you going to read the book?

Or you can go straight on to Disney's new live action ones. I know the UK has some pretty crazy live action ones if I recall.
