Hi Lanna! Welcome 😄
So, like this thread, there are many threads in this group and you can interact under anyone you like..so the heading specifies the discussion topic.
Apart from that we have books of the month (botm) each month, which we read and discuss as a group. For feb, the nominations are open here:
/topic/show/...

You can let us know your choices above. Hope this helps. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Hi! Has anyone read these books?

Book of Night
Never Never
The Key In The Lock

If yes, please share your review and if you liked it or not?

message 205: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments I enjoyed Never Never. This was a real page turner. I just could not put it down. This book keeps you wondering what is going on. I like it! The cliffhanger at the end was good, not what I expected.
If I remember it well it was a bit farfetched, but I thought it was very good so didn't mind

Oh ok! Thanks. Considering reading it.

Erica | 1309 comments I read Book Of Night and gave it four stars. One of my favourite author’s adult debut. It was a little disappointing because it was slow but the end left me needing the next book. Lots of people think The Cruel Prince is slow though, and that series was fantastic.

Okay! Yeah, Holly Black is one of my fav authors too, but I read mixed reviews for this book so I was doubtful. But your review certainly clears my doubts Erica ☺️😄

The Wanderer | 44 comments Hi all. Do people in this group read very randomly? Or do you all plan and read your books?

message 210: by Lisette (last edited May 31, 2023 07:56AM) (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments I do a combination. Sometimes I plan my books for challenges and otherwise i just read random from my ereader.

How about you? What do you mean with reading mostly randomly?

message 211: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments I’m a mood reader so it’s mostly random but it does depend on when library holds come in.

message 212: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments I mostly read depending on my mood as well

I'm new to GR and I see people plan their reading a lot here. I usually just pick up whatever I find and read. I'm not specific about authors or genre. Sometimes I go to the market and just pick up a book I've never heard of and read

message 214: by Lisette (last edited May 31, 2023 11:56PM) (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments That's how I often pick out books too. But instead of going to the market I go to a free little library.

Though depending on my mood I do pick the genre.

You are right about people planning what they read. I did that a lot for a while too, but now I am joining less challenges so I can just read what I want. Sometimes challenges can help you find books you would not have picked up otherwise so I like that.

message 215: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments Yeah reading challenges really do push you to plan your reading out. Funnily enough, I make a plan at the start of the year and do not follow it.

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments Erica wrote: "Yeah reading challenges really do push you to plan your reading out. Funnily enough, I make a plan at the start of the year and do not follow it."

When I join a challenge I get too eager to read for the challenge, so then everything I really want to read is dropped if it doesn't fit the challenge. Which is why I don't join challenges often

I am often in small towns so library is not always an option. But yeah I like to utilise them whenever I can. Since I don't mind any book I can easily find books to read. I want to read some good non fiction books too but haven't had the chance much lately

The Wanderer | 44 comments Erica wrote: "Yeah reading challenges really do push you to plan your reading out. Funnily enough, I make a plan at the start of the year and do not follow it."

I am very bad at following a plan! So I never tried adding any challenges. Plus I read whatever I can find so it may not be fitting any goals. I try to read when I can as much as I can. That's probably the only thing I follow!

message 219: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 471 comments It's ok, wandering man. I have quit buying books in bulk. I have decided to buy only two books at a time as my mood varies on what to read and what not to read.

Yeah i try to limit purchases. I don't keep much anything with me

Weather certainly affects reading for me, it alters my mood and hence my reading preferences. But I don't read according to the seasons, I read according to my mood.

What about you?

message 223: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments I read according to my mood as well. Though in winter I sometimes like a seasonal book about Christmas, but rarely do that.

message 224: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 471 comments The Wanderer wrote: "Does the weather outside affect your book reading? Do you read different types of books during different seasons?"

Weather doesn't have any effect on the kind of books I read. When it's Christmas time, I read at least one Christmas themed novel. Then in October, I make sure to read a horror book.

Rachel Lucas | 8 comments The Wanderer wrote: "Does the weather outside affect your book reading? Do you read different types of books during different seasons?"

The weather doesn't really affect what I read. But if it happens to match the vibe of whatever I'm reading, it just kicks my reading experience up a notch.

message 226: by The Wanderer (new)

The Wanderer | 44 comments Weather does affect my mood and what I might pick. I won't bother too much but during rainy or wintery days I like to read some thriller or something melancholic. Especially at night when it's quiet

That's great! I actually kept your suggestion in mind while planning this challenge, I also think your issue might be common with many other members as well. So, I tried changing the challenge to a more general theme. Glad it worked out for you :)

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments That's what I am doing now as well, Erica. But it is tempting to overthink it and choose books to fit the challenge

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments The BOTM theme for next month makes me think of a book, but I can't remember the title. It's kind of frustrating. It was a thriller about a teacher that makes even teh worst teacher you had at school look good.

message 243: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments Well I'm no help because I've barely read any thrillers.

I'm looking at my book in years, but none of the covers seems to be the one I am thinking off. It's okay if I don't remember though
