Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments Oh and read the posts above for info on Crown Conspiracy vs. Theft of Swords!

message 152: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1762 comments I'm definitely planning to read Crown Conspiracy. But, two of my library holds came through back-to-back (of course) and I'm officially reading Too Many Books, so I need to finish something before I start this.

Anyone wanting Allison and I to argue on VBC should vote for Uprooted.

I'd also recommend voting for The Mere Wife, The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, Remnant Population, The Sword of Kaigen, All You Need Is Kill, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, and A Canticle for Leibowitz but Allison and I are less likely to butt heads over those.

Cool! You can vote for Uprooted and step aside as Allison & I disagree about Uprooted being any more problematic than Spinning Silver.

(Unless a reread convinces one of us to change her mind)

message 160: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 5904 comments I'm just voting for books on my TBR pile that I haven't read, hence the Salvatore book

message 161: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments I need to know why Ryan thinks Silver is problematic? I don’t remember it well enough to guess. (Making assumptions based on other books, but pretty sure I know what Allison thinks is the nope in Uprooted.)

I think it's... a good reason to vote for a reread of Uprooted. :)

Same here including the Salvatore book.
I've been wondering which of the bookshelf books people put off reading.

Uprooted would make a great comparison for VBC since we recently discussed Spinning Silver!

But don't pick it, w shall all rue.

Unless you enjoy a row, in which case, let's rock.

The Salvatore book is Homeland btw.

message 167: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 1991 comments A book not having been read, doesn't mean it's worth reading. (not pointing at a specific book mentioned on this page, or anything.)

I've voted! Only one of the books I voted for is in the top ten, but it's early yet.

also wth I can't believe we read sword of Kaigen that long ago!!

message 175: by DivaDiane (new)

Chris | 1122 comments I hope to see Rosewater make the cut.

message 177: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments I will give Rosewater a vote. I never finished the series, and I'd need to reread book one if I want to do that.

message 178: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments Did someone *remove* a vote from Rosewater? I added a vote to it but it's still at 11.

message 179: by Anthony (new)

Anthony (albinokid) | 1477 comments I’ll just say Rivers of London is a book I have on a TBR challenge list so I’d be happy to have other folks reading it with me.

Tina Reads | 144 comments I've got Ancillary Justice on my TBR this fall and I'd like to read with other people, so it's got my vote!

message 181: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 1991 comments At least so far, the top six a nice selection of books I've either already read, or that I wouldn't mind reading.

I'd like to see Sword of Kaigen make a better showing, though!

Jemppu | 1735 comments Anthony wrote: "I’ll just say Rivers of London is a book I have on a TBR challenge list so I’d be happy to have other folks reading it with me."

On my list too (one of the oldest so). It seems to me the kind that might benefit from others' impressions, indeed.

message 183: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3083 comments I had chosen River of London also.

Fine! I've voted for Rivers of London too without even checking it's availability.

There are a few reasons why I'd love a reread of The Sword of Kaigen, but one of the less personal reasons is how I think it compares with our current BOTM, The Witch's Heart. Amongst other things it might be interesting to talk about the difficulties in writing a story where the main POV character is a stay at home mum that actually stays home.

message 185: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3637 comments I’m pretty sure Rivers of London would be available. I also have a PB copy if you wanna borrow it.

Do you know what the books on the shelf and my children have in common? I don't like the older ones.

Vote wisely, people!

message 189: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

a mod unties it, usually lol

message 190: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments Yeah I vote (or unvote) before I close to break the tie. I've had to do it twice I think.

message 191: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments How do I decide? It depends, but if there's one that someone talked about here, I'll likely pick that one :) What I'm saying is that if I know active people want to read something, I can make sure it makes it through if it's tied with something no one has mentioned.

message 192: by Anthony (new)

Anthony (albinokid) | 1477 comments Cool, thanks, fearless Mods!

message 193: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3637 comments I would be likely to read Sword or To Say Nothing, which are both on my TBR (I think I have the Willis on this year’s challenge even). I just read the Leckie last year.

The third book in Adrian Tchaichovsky's Children of Evolution series is released in November so it might be worth getting a reread of Children of Time scheduled.

Edit: Although I now see that it isn't an option on the poll so I should bring this up in a different thread. Sorry.

Reread The Sword of Kaigen!

message 195: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 1259 comments I think Children of Time's not there because we read that Soul book of his in 2021, so 24 months.

I would tiebreak with The Sword of Kaigen too. Why. Hank, YouKneek, Ryan and Kaa all liked it. :-)

It's because the last reread of CoT was in January 2021. So it'll be in the next batch. Same 24 months, but nothing to do with what new BOTMs get added to the shelf :)
